My 06 4x4 is 2 inches higher than my buddy's 05. I can't figure out how the factory did it, and I would like to lower my 06 2 inches so the 5th wheel rides closer to level. Any suggestions?

Terry

Carry more firewood with you? :D

Sorry, got me stumped. I thought all was the same. Do you have some special off road poackage or bigger tires or something?

Is it possible the factory accidentally put the extra spacer in the rear leaf-pack from the Powerwagon? I know those trucks are about 1 1/2" higher from the factory. You sure you got the right forum and not the "Hemi" forum :-laf those trucks are a little higher too, due to the lighter weight over the front axle??? I'm shooting in the dark, good luck though.

Try comparing to other trucks of varying years... your buddy's truck may be well used w/ slightly sagging suspension or something.

my truck did seem higher than my dads '04, however with my trailer hooked up I am about 1. 5"s lower ballheight than with my old '02 maybe its softer springs

the new 2500's dont have the helper springs like alot of the second gens did. thats why i went the the 3500 srw

Thanks for the help and the links to klenger. It makes a lt of sense to me. I still can't understand why Dodge had to jack the truck higher than the 05's, but when they elect me King, I'll get some answers. Terry

No problem. Not only did I do the"Klenger Drop", but I then added Bilsteins, Helwig Traction control springs and Firestone Ride-Rites. Instead of the 5psi they recommended for the bags when empty, I am running 12 psi. That added back about an inch of the ride height that I lost with the Klenger mod. Only difference is that inch or so is all on air and the ride over concrete roadways is much inproved over stock. The Bilsteins actually control the rear axle so the bumps you hit, you at least only hit once. A side benefit of all this is that the launch shudder (u-joint bind, I think) that used to be there when taking off from a stop in 2nd gear is now gone completely, along with the terrible axle tramp in low traction situations (sand. ) Where the rear-end used to hop up and down and just bury itself with no forward motion, feeling like it was gonna self destruct at any moment, it now just turns the tires over with an ever so slight slight shuddering and pulls itself right out of blow sand in 2 wheel drive. Hard to believe you have to do that many mods to a brand new truck to make it work correctly, but it is what it is.

I had the same issue with my 06 being higher than my 04. 5. Also learned that it's a bit higher than two other 3500 DRW QC 4x4 the dealer had on his lot. No extra spacer from like the Powerwagon. Go figure. I also tow a fifth wheel. But the dealer refuses to do the "Klenger" fix and I can't find anyone in the metro DC area who has or will swap out the spacers.

I suspect the "Klenger" fix will also change the drive angle enough to fix the shudder I have on take off (something else the dealer can't seem to resolve). TAbbott, your post seems to confirm this. I don't see why all those service guys at the dealer cant' figure that out.

I saw another 3500 DRW 4x4 (2005) recently at a campground and he did removed a spacer as per Klenger and said that did the trick so it should work for you.

I just lowered the rear on my 06 2500 Q/C 4x4. The only thing different on my truck was that it has 3 spacers and not 2 as shown in the "klenger" fix. Using an impact wrench makes the job a lot faster.

I've got an 05 2500 and i would take those extra spacers off you if thats the case. Or anyone that has removed these extra spacers.

KyleKlein,

I moved the spacers to the top of the springs so I didn't have to buy new "U" bolts plus if I want to raise the truck in the future I have all of the parts.

Just finished doing the Klenger mod on a 3500. Was a little different but same basics. Had to unbolt bottom end of the shocks and jack the truck 6 inches off the springs to get the clearance to get the bolts out of the spring packs. E-brake cable, wiring and hydraulics were pretty much at their limits, but there is enough slack and the job can be done in under 2 hours. Went from 19. 5 to 18 inches at the bumper hitch. Hopefully this will better distribute the weight on my tandem axle trailers and I'll stop smoking the tires on the front axle when braking.
