The malfunction indicator light came on. I checked the codes on the odometer and I have P1693 and P PCU. I was driving when it occurred and I was able to feel the truck when it happened. Anybody know what the P PCU means? I read the post on P1693, seems lie a generic code for a PCM or ECM DTC. Very low power, feels like the transmission went into the limp mode, which I think is 3rd gear. Any ideas? Thanks!

I believe that indicates the P1693 code was stored in the PCM.

In this context, the P1693 means you have a trouble code set in the ECM, which the odometer window method can't check for. You'll need a code scanner to find out what code has been set in the ECM.

I think I have a bad MAP sensor connector. It does not snap or lock in when I connect it. Engine runs normally now. Not sure how to correct. I think the locking tab may be broken off. May have to go to dealer for a new connector. Anybody seen this before?

Jim,

Assuming it's not the MAP sensor which has the problem (broken tab?) and you do need the new connector, then you can order Chrysler part number 5013998AA, for $17. 75 from MoparPartsAmerica or a bit more from your local dealer.

Thanks for that info.

How are the wires removed from the old connector and reconnected?

It depends on what type of connector it is.

The technique typically involves poking a special tool you buy (or one you improvise and make yourself) into the opening of the connector around the terminal which pushes on and releases the terminal's "fingers" that hold it in place.

The official Dodge service manual contains complete instructions.

See the attached pages from the 2001 Dodge Service Manual. Sorry for the crappy resolution... it's the only way I could make the file size small enough to upload.
