started my truck this morning to warm it up(37*)

went out 10 minutes and had a nice puddle of atf on the driveway! is leaking out of the inspection cover on the bell housing. what could be my problem? thanks..... james

Transmission front seal is gone at the least.

Are we talking about the 2006 shown in your sig or do you have a 1st gen not listed in your sig?

yes i have a 1993 w2504x4. thats whats leaking. seems worst when transmission is cold and warming up in park. lost about half a quart. fluid level on stick is good!

Do not warm it up in park. Our trans do not provide oil to the converter in park position. This can lead to failure of the front seal, converter hub, pump bushing problems.

The trans will need to come out to repair the leak.

There is a upgraded control valve on the market to cure the no fuild in park position. It would be a good upgrade while the trans is out.

time for a full DTT transmission.

what should i do, warm it up in netural? my buddy is the servise manager for a local dodge dealership. i'm going to have his tec look at it after hours. hopfully it's an easy fix... ... OR, do you guys think it's somthing a farmer could fix?

If you do get a rebuild... or anywork at all... pull the valve body out and get the Sonnex manual valve and pressure regulator valve. At least the manual valve. Allows good flow in park for lube, warming up, and checking fluid in park. PR valve also prevents drainback converter fluid loss. Just a thought to keep what might be your problem from happening again. Easy to install.

Mine did that on one of my3 rebuilt trannies. It seemed like it was loosing steam and it stopped moving as I pulled it into the lot of the transmission shop that now officially owed me a new one under warranty of their last hack job. A giant puddle formed under the transmission, coming out of the inspection cover. The torque converter is what they told me took a digger. According to the mechanic there, my truck ripped up the converter and all the pieces of got in the fluid and ripped up the rest of the transmission. They rebuilt it and it lasted another 6 months... . hope you have better luck.

I went to a Freightliner dealership for the stacks and the heat shields. All the plumbing I had to go to a specialty shop for. The semi dealers will have the stacks, but the plumbing they have will all be big custom bent and welded pieces specific to their trucks. I bought a bunch of generic elbows, straights, and a little bit of flextube all from a place called "fuel systems" that basically specializes in anything turbocharged... from a ricer to a front loader.
