Running Straight Bio

Got a tank full of B11 in Iowa on Saturday... that had to be the smoothest this truck has ever ran. That was the "stiffest" blend I knowingly ran... later in the day I got some B5 and B2.

Its getting easier to find, a LOT of stations had bio and E85 at the pump on this trip... I will be running it more and more often as I find it.

Should I watch the gaskets on filters, or would the ULSD have already caused any issue?

You should try B50 or higher. You wont believe the difference in smoothness and quietness.

I didnt have a problem with filters (or gaskets) probably because I (acquired) some extra filters from a friend, and changed them a few times in the process of converting.

Now, I LOVE the stuff, but just because it can run a little "heavy" on the viscosity (noticed the fuel pressure rises about 1-1. 5 psi at high concentrations), so I usually cut it w/ ulsd. Currently running about a B-80 mix. B50 seems to be a good all-around compromise down here in the warmer climate of so, cal.

One thing I've noticed is it still produces more soot that I had expected/wanted. Darn near as much as dino, but the pump & motor sure run "happier" with it. Idle is rock solid, add dino and the tack gets "unstuck" at idle again.

Added: Just realized our injector type is different. Not sure about how well the electronic injectors handle heavy concentrations of bio so might want to do the research on that before going to too heavy of a mix. Might not be a problem at all, but thought I read something warning about heavy concentrations of bio having a spray pattern issue - Not Sure. (just an fyi in case)

It idled so smooth at times, that it was scary. As in, is it running scary...

I'm hoping they get it around here...

I've found with the CRDs a B20or B30 is best. Anything over a 50 and performance suffers. This wasn't the case when I had my 98. It would run on B99 like a dream.

This is good to know... I figured I would stay under B20, when/if I could find it...

I only had the opportunity to actually choose the grade of bio at one SinClair station... but I didn't understand the ratios. They were #2, 25/75, 50/50, 75/25, and #2... the only one that was a given was 50/50, but the other mix ratios were confusing (is it bio to dino, or dino to bio?)... and the fact there were TWO #2 options... I must have gotten the dino #2 because mileage was nothing short of awesome for the entire trip.
