it all started a few weeks ago... .

one day i noticed i had no fuel pressure. checked my pump at the tank and it was buzzing. took it easy going home and my guage turned on and off. next time the guage shoed no pressure,i checked it with a test light and it had power. figured the sending unit was shot! Well, this sunday leaving breakfast, i stepped on the go pedal and the truck fell on it's face. it felt like the turbo wasn't working. got home. . bumped the starter to see if the lift pump was running and it didn't come on!changed the lift pump and have s solid 14psi of pressure at idle. drove the truck and it still wont giddyup. when i step on the pedal, the motor won't even rev up. it's just blah... . oh,yeah... my check engine light is on and i have lost a exhaust manifold bolt!could my truck have gone into limp mode?truck is going into the stealer on monday and wanted some input before the blow smoke at me! sorry so long. . james

Check what codes you have in your computer. You can do this by turning on the ignition to the on position with out starting your truck. cycle it on, off, on, off, on and wait. You will see the odometer cycle. It will say P PCU, then it will flash P DONE. Next it will flash P ECU, Next it will falsh any ECU codes. Then it will flash P DONE. Get those codes and reply.

Not the '99

Sorry to hear about your trouble!

The '99 trucks don't display the fault codes in the odometer. :{

So you must have someone read the codes with a scan tool.

Just a thought, have you replaced the fuel filter?

Marco

James, if you have a check engine light on you should have it checked for codes, it's possible to be a bad sensor. I'm not that familiar with diesels but on gas jobs a check engine light usually leads you in the right direction and sometimes an inexpensive repair. How far are you from Massdiese? if the truck is drivable, give him a buzz.

My 2000 3500 has the same symptoms.

Hooked up my new QuickCheck II from Cummins and find fault codes for erratic MAP sensor.

The readings for boost that exactly corresponded in real time to my low power was ZERO, yes No Boost pressure. Then at idle it would jump to a reading of 40 or 50 then back to 3 then zero. (The most my Westach guage read was 28)

Same while driving WOT. When any boost pressure showed on the QC II scanner, my truck had lots of power.

Then for no reason and a no particular speed or load it would drop to a zero reading and when I gave it throttle, no power at all.

I have an appointment Monday to take it in. I hope it's just a faulty MAP sensor.

I have all the info printed out to maybe help the Dodge Boys out.

Bob

BTW: I also had lift pump readings of only 10 at idle and 3 1/2 at WOT.

BobbyRam, before I took it in, I would unplug the MAP sensor and spray the connectors with contact cleaner and then apply dielectric grease. Many times these problems are just a bad connection.
