I've got po148 and po191 codes today. Truck quit running going down the highway.

My fuel gauge has been on the frits for the last thousand or so miles until its completely empty so my first thought was that I ran it out of fuel. I replaced the filter and filled her with 5 gallons of fresh diesel. Crank crank crank,... fire! She runs but it is rough. I played it safe and had it towed into my local mechanic.

I know what the codes are but it seems those specific codes could mean several different things.

I'm over 250k with reman injectors installed at 183k. FCA was replaced shortly after 183k. OEM lift pumped was changed at 90k with the upgrade.

Any ideas?

Prove the lift pump first, do you have a replacement FCA you could swap?, then possible rail press sensor with the codes you are seeing. May even be a complete CP3 failure with the mileage, what kind of fuel filtration are you using?

I'll post on here once I find out. I feel better about handing it over to my independent mechanic so it can be wrestle with it. Besides, I was only 12 miles from his shop and my home was 35+.

Gotcha!

Kind of a crap shoot when it just dies, then will run but not correctly and throwing codes... . I take it you have no aftermarket fuel boxes? I've had similar issues with both the Edge EZ and TST, learned they were the 1st items to remove and isolate.

Good Luck, let us know how it turns out. Jess

Wasn't able to find one specific problem with the truck. It started without issues the next morning. So he drove it around town for a bit and took it home with him. Again, no issues the next day so I drove down the mountain and picked it up.

This morning, I start it up and idles a bit rough. I take off down the mountain and steadily watch my fuel pressure gauge go from 9 to 5 psi and then to zero! NO CODES. Now I'm coasting off to the shoulder and waiting for yet another tow truck. This time, I have it towed back to my house and call the mechanic.

So,..... at this point, I'm thinking it's the lift pump the tank. Not sure but it's cheaper than injectors and at 250K miles, just about everything is starting to fall off the truck. I ordered a FASS Titanium kit this morning and I pulled the bed off so I can try to sort out my failing truck woes and to fix another separate fuel level gauge problem I have.

I'll update this next week.

My Walbro is failing also, but truck is not throwing any codes, it just died, would not fire back up. I would turn the key on and could not hear the lift pump... crawled underneath and whacked the pump with a screwdriver handle and it took off, but not smoothly, pump pitch/sound up and down.

I have a new Walbro under my back seat, just waiting for some cooler weather before I replace it. I am going to re-do my lines to my pre-filters also, and will probably purchase a new universal Raptor 150 for my future spare. Was actually going to tackle it this am, but just noticed a large crack in my lawn sprinkler manifold#@$%!, going to hit it before the sun comes around that side of the house.

Let us know how the new FASS works out, take some pics of the install if you have the time.

Jess

If you have the lift pump intank, when its repaired remove it, and install an original pickup tube assembly that was in the truck when you purchased it. Then install a quality lift pump like the Fass system that has better filtration. I might be able to find my original pickup tube assembly I got back from Dodge when the intank pump was installed back in 05, and if you pay for the shipping you can have it.

JJPage. It's my experience that Walbro pumps are not what they used to be. My 1st one went almost 200,000 miles. The next 1 didn't make it out of the driveway. I sent it back and was told they suspected contamination. I argued enough that they sent me a supposedly new 1 under warranty. When I got it I fund black grit in the inlet screen. I called the co. back and told them what I thought of their product. I threw that pump under the bench and installed an in tank unit from Mopar. I pulled the tank and checked it for debris. Clean as a whistle. Not even a thimble full of water, and no junk. I think I'll stick with the factory in tank from now on.

Here's your choices, 1 Keep factory tank Pump, 2 Install aftermarket system, 3 Mechanical Pump, 4 add Backups or Bypass System. All electronic pumps will fail in most cases W/O warning, carry a spare Like JJ or Backups, Mechanical Pump die slowly after 1000s of Hrs or 100,000s Miles.

My butt is whooped!

Fixed my danged sprinkler system, after 2 trips to the local hardware supply. Figured, I'm filthy dirty, may as well change out my lift pump... those Parker Push Lok fittings are golden, you could not pull them apart with a D8 CAT!

New Walbro installed, sounds good, can hear the excess fuel dumping into my fill tube, and a definite pump whine. A bit leary about the Walbro, 1st one lasted about 6 years, only 24k miles... . Jhenderson, I believe you, nothing is what it used to be.

Anyone running a Walbro, be prepared to bypass the pump on the side of the road, the CP3 will not pull through it.
