Truck lists to port!

At least I think port is the left? Anyway, noticed tonight when I pulled in behind the truck that it wasn't level. So I measured from several points on the frame to the ground (in the garage, drive, and street just to make sure) and the right side is 3/4 of an inch higher in the front and a full inch higher in the rear. I never noticed this before, but that doesn't mean its new.



Is everyone elses truck level??? I have about 3/4 of a tank of fuel, but on a 2500 with the camper package, I can't imagine thats enough to change it.

Okay,

I'll assume your truck is a long bed.

Long Bed trucks have a 36 gallon capacity.

3/4 full, that's 75%, 75% of 36 is 27.

That means there is approximately 27 gallons on the drivers side of the truck.

If Diesel wieghs close to the wieght of water, water has a wieght of 8 pounds per gallon.

27x8=216



That means there is about 216 more pounds of wieght on the drivers side than on the pass. side.

Could this account for 3/4" difference? I don't think it can acount for 3/4" put I feel 1/2" is possible, and the other 1/4" could be in different tire pressures, different sized bushings, stronger shocks on one side, or it could be that with the wieght of the driver (Or other things on tje drivers side) could have caused a 1/4"-1/2" sag in the left hand side of the vehicle.

(I wieghed 230Lbs when I had a 3/4 ton chevy, and after 12K miles the truck had a slight lean to the driver side. )

One more thing that could be causing a lean to the left, could be that right hand turns are usually much tighter than left hand corners, which presents more wear and tear the the Driver side of the vehicle.



These are just my quick thoughts,,, and I could be one taco short of a combo, but a few things to think about.

Yeah, mine is lower on the left side as you are looking at it from the rear. about half an inch... . what gives?

My truck also leans to the left and it really really bothers me!! My buddy calls it the Detroit Lean. I'm in the truck alone 85% of the time and with the fuel tank on the left side I'm sure this is not helping the situation. I wish the fuel tank was on the right side of the truck, thus offsetting the drivers weight. My 1500 gasser did this and I never thought it would happen on this truck, guess I was wrong

I've wondered about that too. A full tank of fuel & a 200 driver on the same side. And how about the nose heavy feel? I've thought about relocating both battries from almost behind the headlights, to a location side-by-side on the frame rail just behind the cab. that would partially offset the driver & fuel tank, and take about 150lbs off the very front of the truck. Might be a little harder to service, but how often do they need it? INstead of a 5' cable between the battries, you could use 12" cable. If I could find the right battery box, I might try it.

The 1st generation trucks had a left leaning problem which was frequently a tweaked frame from the engine torque, or reverse torque on decelleration. It supposedly costs about $600 at a frame shop to correct it. I thought this problem had been corrected on the newer trucks, maybe not.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't seem to affect how the truck drives, just an annoying thing I hadn't noticed before.



Might try upgrading the shocks in the not to distant future and see if that helps.

lean

The lean could also be caused by suspension/steering wear from driving on crowned roads. If you had the time, swap your front springs from side to side. That should correct a lean condition.

Mine leans too.



Seems to me, that I remember reading that there is a difference between the rating on the left and right front springs. Why I don't know. Anyone know for sure?



I've thought about the fuel, but it really is pretty central left to right, besides, it still leans when the tank is empty.
