That virtue came to an abrupt end at lunchtime today. While stopped in traffic (luckily with my foot on the brake) I got whacked from behind by some young inattentive chick in a mid 90's GMm intermediate (looked like a Cavalier).

Everybody's health is fine... . she's probably still crying, trying to figure out what to tell her dad. I heard the cop telling her he was giving her a warning as I was pulling away. I'll have to wait till the end of the week when I can get a police report.

Her car? Gotta be an easy $2000/2500... hood, bumper, 3 of 4 headlights, probably rad supports and hood latch parts. No antifreeze leaking.

The cop said it looked like my bumper was tweaked a little... . he's probably right, but it's hard to see. I'll have to look tonight on a lift.

Damn..... I almost wasn't going to get out of the truck!

Now to make a quick call to my insurance agent to make sure I don't get blindsided with anything after her parents find out what happened... .

One never knows. :(

Jay

Glad to hear everybody is OK. (truck included)

I was thinking you should have gotten her # for some of the single guys then remberd they wouldnt of wanted her as she might not be the best driver. hehehehe

Geez Jay, sorry to hear about the truck, may even require waxing the bumper. Good thing it's a D instead of a W, or she'd be wearng your ring gear as a necklace!

Glad you're ok!

Jim

Sorry to hear about that, Jay. You know a little of my history, so take it with a grain of salt. I will recommend getting a complete police report, insurance info, etc, etc. In other words, cover your butt, and then cover it again to be safe.

BTW- That's why I have an old jalopy wtih a 4" Pipe rear bumper with 1/2" plate completing the set up. No problems with tailgaters, and even if one DID hit me, I'd only notice if I got another whiplash. Couldnt tell by the truck.

Daniel

Jay, sorry to hear about that atleast no one was hurt, sounds to me like a reason to do some custom work for a rear bumper now. I had a guy try to remove a bumper cover with my hitch one day i couldnt help but to laugh at the guy which didnt help the event :-laf

Wow! Around here, if you're at fault, you get a ticket for "Failure to control speed to avoid an accident". No ifs, ands, or buts.

I can see it now...

Gotta luv dem old rigs made of steel! Glad to head everyone's all right.

Ya gotta luv the ability to say, "Hey, you owe me $4. 98 for a can of Krylon so I can touch up this here hitch you just scratched... . "

Well, turns out it's a little more than that... . but not bad.

The bottom lip of the bumper appears to have just kissed the lower sheet metal and poked a small hole in it. The bumper is not scratched, but needs a little reverse tweakin' to make it straight.

I'll get an estimate tonight on the way home from a couple of places my son does a lot of business with.

Then I'll probably make an offer to the other driver to settle without a claim at the end of the week after I get the police report.

Daniel... . Whiplash... um you mean cervical strain injuries? That's the official legal term as I heard it on a jury I had to serve on a couple of years ago... . YOU will be happy to know that our jury (I was foreperson) broke the mold and we awarded her basically nada.

Sorry to hear that Jay. She really wasn't looking out the front window because she definately should have seen the shine from that paint. It's one thing not to care if you have an old junk, but yours DEFINATELY didn't fall into that category. Tell your son he needs to finish his project so you have something to drive... .

I killed my truck's virginity by accidentally jumping the driver's rear quarter panel over a 2-ft retaining wall. Oops.

Next impact was when a lady backed out as I was backing out also in a tight lot. I stopped; she didn't. Hitch punctured a hole in her Taurus-- I just had to polish the hitch ball:)
