Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Truck puked a lotta oil this weekend...blow-by bottle?

I was backing up a steep hill at the lake this weekend, and about halfway up oil started leaking out... and quite a bit of it. Stopped after I got up the hill... . continued to drip for some time, but I think that was just from was came out earlier. I had to back up the same hill the next day... and same result. Oil pressure was fine throughout. Is this the 'blow-by bottle' spilling out? The oil did appear to have some green fluid in it also. Anything I should do now? Thanks for any help or advice.

There is a TSB to fix it, moving the beather to side cover behind injector pump.

A lot of people reporting this have found the green liquid to be engine degreaser from the last time they washed it. It could be the cause of what you are seeing.

Standard issue thing when working on steep inclines or declines (depending on which way you're pointing).



My pickup has never done it to me, but has to the previous owner (My Grandfather) 3 times. His new '02 has also done it to him twice. He's talked to every dealership he can and nobody knows a fix... . he REFUSES to do the TSB of re-routing the blow-by line to the back of the engine, because then he'd never even know it'd happen. At least when it comes out the front he can smell/see the burning oil and knows he lost some.



He said it was usually between 3-4 quarts each time it happened. He started carrying 2 spare gallons with him after the first time, and I do it now just in case.



You can buy an "air-sep" (do a search) but then oil changes become a PITA and it's an expensive solution to something that's just a bad design, not really a problem.

or you could move the cranks case vent to on top the valve cover. I have done it and it fixed my problem and cleaned up the front of the engine. This is probably the best and the cheapest way of doing it. If you move it to the side you will have to watch out for side slopes and if you just make the hose longer it will still leak out but hopefully not create as big as a mess. It has been discussed here before so do a search and you will see some pics of what i am talking about.
