Coming back from town the other day my '97 started to accelerate on its own. I was coming up on a curve that I usually need to slow down for so I turned of the switch and then restatrted it and it has been fine ever since. anyone got any ideas? 112K but 40k since cummins rebuilt pump. # 6 plate, otherwise engine is stock.

I dont guess you hit the cruise-on button and then while thumping your fingers on the steering wheel while listening to your favorite music... hit the LOCK button... . :D

I have to say that I did do that once... :( I would have to say that a single pair of drawers was not enough to say the least, my brother (soiled pants) had the same problem, he was with me then he said the seat was wet also. :--) :-laf

unintended acceleration

Cruise was not on, did not hit buttons for cruise. Mom had a buick that would take off on its own when cruise was on as did our neighbors Olds. I came home one day (1979?) and I could hear the antifreeze boiling in mom's car. I asked her about it and she said she couldn't afford to drive it without the efficiency of using the cruise but it would take off on its own so she would just ride it down with the brakes all the way from town.

Dont know much about diesels yet, but years ago Audi had problems with their computers reacting to people taking the car out of park and putting it into a drive gear. The computer would recognize the idle coming down from shifting into gear and would rev up the motor to maintain idle speed, thus launching cars out of driveways, etc. I think someone even got ran over. As you approached the corner and let off the go pedal, the engine may have gone below idle speed and the computer increased fuel. It's just a theory. My 5 speed will help me slow down till at or below idle then the idle actually makes it accelerate, was differerent to get used to at first.

has your throttle cable been replaced?

maybe its begining to frey and hung up on you.

the 12v's have nothing on them that would speed up the accelerator other than the cruise. the computer only monitors it. it cant even speed up the idle, you have to adjust it manually.

the only other things would be an intake leak that could be causing run away on you!!!

check you throttle cable... i bet its ready for a new one.
