A month ago shortly after a fill up my truck started acting up. Cant go over 2000 RPM, if I try I get clouds of blue smoke. I have recently replaced the lift pump and fuel filter(proir to problem). Havent checked FP yet. At first I thought possibly turbo after inspection I found that the wastegate was frozen shut and could not be made to work also there was slop in shaft. So I replaced the turbo yesterday and the problem still exists. At the same time I bought a cheap code reader it indicated no codes.

I just went to a friends garage to use his scan tool and I got a code P1693, I understand that this is a companion code, but I cant seem to pull the other code/codes. Need advice on how to get other codes. Code description read like this [ code sets when ECM detects code in JTEC controller (PCM) ].

Have you tried resetting the APPS. Or have you checked the MAP sensor yet.

I drove the truck while the scan tool was hooked up so I could watch sensor values. The APPS appeared to be giveing correct values, the MAP sensor I assume was shown as boost on the list that to was working it went from 0/1psi at idle up to 11psi at 2000 rpm. I have a feeling the problem is VP44, but I'd like to know what the hidden code/codes are. I was using a top of line Snap-on scan tool, but the only code I could get was P1693 so I know there are more. I'll be checking fuel pressure and filter today.

 Unfreakin believable I just checked my fuel pressure. NONE. The pump isnt even running or making any noise. I dont think its even been 5000 miles since I replaced it. Does Cummins offer any sort of warranty on these? Probably not I suppose.

Run some temporary wires from the batt. to the pump before condemning it. You could have another issue.

Today I pulled the plug on the lift pump and checked for power and ground. During the on cycle after bumping the key I had both. Then I plugged it back in and bumped the key for the heck of it. The pump was now making a buzzing noise but not creating any pressure on FP tester. When it stopped I thought maybe I didnt see any pressure cause I had drained the filter to visually check the fuel for contaminants (there were none by the way) So I bumped the key again, and after just buzzing about half way through the cycle the pump started making a grinding noise and I started to see erratic pressure on the guage which reached 8 psi by the end of the cycle. As soon as the pump stopped the pressure immediatly went to zero. So I bumped the key again. This time it just buzzed again with no pressure so I figured the pump was bad and gave up. Seems like a good reason to start bombing I'll be ordering my FASS fuel pump/filter setup this week.

I know you probably want the FASS, but in case you didn't know... . Dodge is not offering the Carter pumps anymore (at least once they run out of stock). They are now puting in the fuel tank pumps, like in the new generation trucks.

Thanks, I had read something about that. Wasnt the price almost as much as the whole FASS system like almost 460. 00 or was that the installed price? I just ordered the FASS system for 579. 00+S&H with the 95 GPH pump.

Well I got the FASS system and started the install, it seems that a previous owner chopped the factory nipples off the sending unit and left little stubs with regular rubber lines and hose clamps. It also appears that there has been some leakage there. Possibly air was getting sucked into the suction side. So now its off to the dealer for a new sending unit.

Well the dealer wanted 300. 00 for a new sending module ( the only way to get the part that the suction/return lines utilize ), so I searched and wound up doing the CStewart mod. Everythings back together FASS installed and so far so good.
