I hate the whole "blindly casting about for an excuse" thing that some of the dealers do. All I can tell you guys is to keep trying because it isn't normal. Mine doesn't do it and neither does my buddies. If you guys were closer, I'd gladly let you try my truck for comparison.

Good luck

Dave

Dave,

Believe it or not, I bought my dually without previously driving one because I new I wanted a Dodge and I needed a dually for the new boat. The dealership that said they can't fix it said they all do it. I may take your advice and ask to drive the ones they have in staock to see if they all do it as the dealership is telling me. I guess 42K for a truck doesn't mean much in todays world and we should expect major issues like this. Nice thing is, the truck looks great and I still wouldn't take a Ford over it! If I could take care of this issue and my transmission shifting issue, I'll be a happy camper.

When the TSB was done on mine they handed me a little slip of paper that said something along the lines of, "This repair does not always fix the problem. " Not exact words but in effect it said that it can't be fixed. On a completely separate issue, how does that lemon law thingy work...

Does anybody else get a chirping noise when it shakes? I get a very light sounding, yet very pronounced chirp that coincides with the shake. Sounds like some sort of metal on metal pinging. Almost like a great big jingle bell. Of course I CAN'T duplicate this for the dealer. May be rear diff, or not even close. Whenever I ask someone to listen, either it won't do it, or they can't pinpoint the source.

I wish sig's would show while I am typing this. I'm curious if all the trucks that shake have the same basic set-up. 6spd, 4. 10LS, yada yada yada.

Man you guys are scareing the **** out of me with all this mine does not appear to have " the shudder" but does have a nice sound resonating from the trans area (see what gives with the sound coming from th NV-5600 in 3rd gen section)I gave a complete outline of what I just went thru with this sound.

Now what makes you guys not think that the problem isn't the clutch? I have a buddy with a after market HD SO bend clutch and it displays the exact symptoms your talking about. Now granted the stock clutch should not allow this to happen but what if all the clutches are not the same??

05 3500 4X4 Laramie DRW 325/610 4:10's 6 spd new 10/30/04

Sols 99 3500 4X4 SLT Laramie DRW 4:10's ATS trans,VB,TC Comander, AFE Edge Auto Meter and yes the 53 block (thats why shes gone!)

I have a shudder right when I take off - to 5mph. It has done it since new, 4,000 miles now.

My truck is a : 2005, 4x4 dually, auto, 3,73ls, crew cab, electronic shift-4x4,

I had the same problem, yoke seal started to leak so changed it & yoke, no fix, changed 2 u joints & fixed problem. Damn thing is starting to do it again & I am going to change all 4 joints to after market brand.

My shake is on a 04 1/2 automatic. It's very blatent at 2-3 MPH and a constant vibration afetr that. (Almost same as runnung with big knobby tires only a lesser degree) You actaully have a small blur in the rearview mirror. I'm going to take it to my original dealer. They are willing to look at it and give me a loaner until they fix it. (He feels he can fix it but I'm beginning to think I will have to take it to a driveshaft specialist) I did see where Dodge covered their rear end my stating that it may not fix the problem. I would hate to turn my truck in on the lemon law. I have all the time and $ in the Banks Kit, exhaust, gauges, lift, etc. How would they handle that?

Looking the other way...

Let me see... You've altered the suspension with air bags. You've raised the ride height with front lift. You've altered the engine control system with a kit,

and

It does not ride/perform/handle like a stock truck...

Looking from the DC's prespective, I might have some reluctance to fully understand the problem.

OK, it appears that SOME bone stock trucks may have the same problem. I bet they will have better luck getting DC to figure out what the problem is.

FYI, my stock 04 Dually regular cab, 2WD, 6-speed does not have the problem. Just turned 50K miles - towing all the way.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to bomb my truck and have fun with it like you are! :) Mine is just a work truck and it does it's job very well. You've put in a lot of time, effort and money into your truck and if it were mine, I'd be very proud of it.

I'd also want as much help from DC as I could get!!!

See, that's the same attitude I get from the dealer. However, in my case, I pointed out the shutter before I modified the truck. I did that because I knew they would try to blame it on the aftermarket parts, as they usually do. By the way, there is a federal law that states that a manufacturer can not deny a claim simply beacause it has aftermarket parts installed. They have to prove the aftermarket parts are causing the problem. This would most likely turn into an issue for the attorneys. By the way, all of my modifications were with top notch aftermarket suppliers who actually, in most cases, enhance the performance of a stock vehicle. Have you ever installed synthetci motor oil to your vehicle? That would classify as afetrmarket if it didn't come that way.

Having it documented while everything was stock was a VERY GOOD move. I'm sure they are hoping you give up on it. Just hang in there and keep reminding them that it was reported BEFORE the mods!!

Mine has done this ever since it was new, it's just getting a lot worse now. According to the TSB info and the way the dealer is trying to fix it, airbags and other leveling devices (rear end) should eliminate the problem.

I can't detect any slop in any u-joints, but that's a distinct possibility. I hate these stupid greaseless things anyway. Service manager said the noise I hear is most likely the joints. Not sure how he'd know this since he hasn't heard it yet...

Macdaddy, at first it seemed as though my truck was missing slightly. I thought maybe it was a programming issue of some sort. After a while I thought it had to be clutch related. It almost can't be the clutch because it's been doing it for so long now--just turned over 30k 2days ago. I would think that if it were the clutch, it would be toast by now. As of right now I'm not ruling anything out.

Talked to servce manager today and he said they (DC) should maybe be concentrating more on the angle of the rear end than the driveshafts. Goes back to the "axle wrap" issue that comes up with higher hp and/or lifted trucks. I'm gonna do a search here for "axle wrap" 'cause I know there's a lot of info on it. Maybe some of that will help.

JD,

The local Dodge dealership is a joke as far as wanting to fix the launch shutter. I am in the process of upgrading my torque converter and will have a company called Dave's Diesel install it. They are extermely experienced with Dodges and Diesels. While talking to him I asked him if he was familiar with the launch shutter. He knew exactly what it was and knew how to fix it. I told him to go ahead and fix it while he had the truck for the torque converter. He wants $50. 00 to fix it! Tell me Dodge isn't a joke. I WISH SOMEONE WHO WORKS FOR DODGE WAS READING THIS!!! MAYBE SOME FORD OR CHEVY LOVERS AS WELL> PLEASE FORWARD TO THEIR COMPETITION AND POST!!! I hope to have the truck in and back before XMas. I will let you know how it turns out.

One more thing I thought you may want to know...

I had my truck in to Dodge to put the shim kits in to fix the shake. They couldn't fix it and told me I had to live with it. My neighbor owns the dealership so I thought it was proper to involve him in it at that point, before I called a complaint into Dodge. That was a week ago! No phone call.
