I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them before.

Truck is a 2wd g56 truck. It's happened twice now over a week but when getting in my truck and starting it. I let truck idle for a couple minutes to get oils moving before driving off. Truck in neutral, foot on brake, pull ebrake handle TRUCK SHUTS OFF. Wait a second, everything comes back on and truck starts just fine.

No codes, batteries are showing good amps and volts. Not sure why popping the brake would cause truck to shut off like this.

Any one has this happen?

Just throwing a guess at it.... depress the clutch each time before releasing the parking brake. I'm guessing the switch on the clutch that prevents starting without depressing it is either malfunctioning, loose, or close to out of adjustment, if adjustable.

Others may know better

Cheers, Ron

Wiredawg,

That's honestly where I'm thinking the issue is. So next time I get in truck in going to see if I can make it so it again.

Like I mentioned for others, truck starts just fine with foot depressing clutch in neutral. Remove feet from everything, give truck couple minutes to idle.

Depress clutch, foot on brake, pull ebrake, truck shuts off. Again doesn't do it every time only twice in last week of driving

Hey, just for grins, take a peek under there and see and feel if there's something. I'd bet a beer the safety interlock on the clutch is being jarred, shorted or something.

In the past, there’s been issues with a large connector down near the parking brake / left footwell area. I don’t think the neutral safety switch would have any bearing on the trucks ability to continue running after it was started.

i know the connector you speak of. I will check it out when its not raining. Truck has been doing fine since this morning so I am letting it sit for a few hours to see if it happens again.

To me it sounds like an electronic glitch because it makes no sense that the engine shuts down pullong the Ebrake.

Try a hard reset first, maybe it helps.

Well turn on EBrake is shading the truck frame there has to be some lose wiring either near ebrake or under the dash area, have you checked under the hood, and use flashlight look under the dash.

Checked under the hood and all connections look great and aren't loose. I went ahead and removed the battery terminals and cleaned them and reconnected and torqued to spec. I checked under the dash and the big grey connector is connected and not chaffed. I also removed the safety switch and checked it. Was a little dirty from the silicone grease i have been spraying every month to keep it from clicking and making noises so maybe that was the issue but unlikely since the truck started fine every time.

Next time i drive the truck i will get in and start it and then hop back out and watch under the dash while i pulled the e brake handle and see what it does or if it is hitting anything.

comrade - my 18 g56 2500 knows when the e brake is on or off. for example, when i start truck for couple minutes in the cold morning, it starts, kicks up to high idle ( 1000 ) and stays there. if i release the e brake , the idle comes down to normal. ditto is i touch the go pedal. my neutral saftey switch is currently bypassed, so that is not part of the scenario. hope this helps. cheers! :) and good luck.

Yeah thinking of bypassing mine on a separate switch to the dash. Like a toggle switch.

Haven't driven the truck in a few days so we shall see what happens when I get in her Sunday.

well got into the truck Saturday afternoon. Started the truck and let it run a few minutes since it sat for 4 days. Went to drive off and was expecting truck to shut off but nothing happened. Not sure whats going on but haven't had it happen again yet. I am not driving the truck for work today so I will see what happens tomorrow.

Trying to keep you guys in the loop as to what is going on in case it happens for anyone else. ON the plus side, I keep a spare brand new safety switch with me as well as another broken one that I cut the wires and spliced together to make a bypass if i needed it so if it is in fact the safety switch i have options.
