Here’s the deal, last Friday my truck began to sing like a canary. Once I reach cruising speed and under light acceleration (just enough to maintain speed) or very slight acceleration there is a sound coming from the engine compartment that sounds something like a canary just with a slightly lower pitch. It happens at all speeds, 35 mph, 45 mph, 65 mph, you get the idea. It does not happen under moderate to heavy acceleration or when going down hill unless I am accelerating just enough to put a load on it. I does not do it when I let off the accelerator either. I tried to get it to do it while parked in neutral but only got it I think for just about a second, seems to need to be under a slight load. Otherwise the truck is performing as usual, good acceleration, plenty of power. I did put in a new air filter (no change), could not find any loose hoses, I cycled the lift pump and it worked as usual. Tubo sounds like it should. I am at a loss…. Any help would be appreciated… Truck has 105K on it... Thanks, Bill

belt??

I had the same sounds on a hot muggy day a week ago... thought a bearing was going south somewhere. After more research I found it to be my belt causing the noise,,, it was louder with the A/C running also. Try a few shots of Armorall on the belt and see if it goes away.

Thanks for the reply's guys, Bob, I checked the turbo it moves freely, no side to side or in-out play, also rechecked all hose/boot clamps all ok. I checked the serp belt and lubed it a bit no change. I am at a loss. The noise started just after I had the tires rotated and the front end greased. Could it have something to do with the fuel injection pump?????? Thanks, Bill

If you get anti-freeze/coolant on the serpentine belt (or on the older V-belts), you will hear the same sort of noise.
