truck squeaks

my truck squeaks when i turn it off most the time, new to diesels... is this normal for a diesel ?

Some do and some don't. Probably has to do with the tightness of the serpentine

belt not being exactly the same on different trucks, just my guess.



The engine shuts down rather quickly but the alternator doesn't want to stop that

quick so the squeek is generated between the alternator pully and the belt.

More commonly with the automatics than the manuals. "chirp"



Some say using a gatorback serp belt will stop the chirp.

Not to worry , your motor is so tight that when you shut it down it stops on a dime where the rest of the components on the belt want to continue to turn. This will go away in time. Some have said it has chewed up the belt.

The owner's manual states that this is normal. . The fan blade is engaged and due to the compression in diesels, the motor stops rather quick, thus the rather loud chirp.

If I hadn't read about this, I would have thought something was wrong.

11,000 miles on my 2004 2500 w/auto and it's still chirps.

I've looked at the serpentine belt and have not detected any wear as of this date.

I'm not worried about it.
