Truck stalled twice while trailering horses and coming to a stop. Restarted easily and set a check engine light. Code was a PO341. I do have a Rokktech modified crank sensor on it. No box etc. I did check connecter to it.

P0341 is camshaft position sensor. You might want to pick up a new one in case it's on its way out. I think they're pretty easy to change (never done one).

My service manual says it's only for the cam position sensor (crank position is P0335). P0341 is specifically for a lack of a cam position sensor. I suppose the first thing to try is disconnecting it, cleaning, then plugging it back in.

There is a relationship between the crank position sensor and the cam position sensor. At startup the cam position sensor is used, then once the engine is running the crank position sensor is used instead as the primary means to determine engine position. However, both sensors are monitored continuously, and if they differ by more than 1 tooth on the cam gear, the engine will throw a code (not sure whether it will run or not).

The fact that you have a Rokktech modified sensor makes me think maybe it's at fault. Perhaps it somehow provided a signal that was too far away (in terms of crank angle) from the camshaft and the engine panicked and shut down.

Attached is a picture of the location of the cam position sensor. The service manual's first suggestion is to clean the connector. Failing that, check the resistance across the sensor - it should be 900-1100 ohm. Any value outside that range indicates a bad sensor.

Thanks! I'll check the connector etc. Its a virgin, never been off or unplugged etc. It did not duplicate today and after three or four restarts check engine light went off.

The sensor is magnetic, so you may want to check both crank and cam sensor for any metal particles on the end. The crank s. you can blow off with compressed air from under engine, the cam s. is in oil, and needs to be removed.

mine does this every time i haul horses... i dont know what it is... i have only hauled horses twice... . but it did it both times... lol

have had no problems since and that was 9 months ago.

I think it's fairly obvious what's really going on here: the horses are peeing on your CMP when you're not looking. They probably get a good laugh out of it.

The CMP in the photo and what I pulled to look at and ohm did NOT appear to be a cam shaft sensor. Whats buried to the right of the CMP and not labeled appears to be the sensor. The CMP looking thing marked number 1 is in my injection pump and the thing I barley could see to the right of it is in the timing cover. I removed the thing marked 1 and got a trickle of fuel and it looked nothing like the crank sensor if the two sensors look alike?
