While camping, my wife and I decided to go into town, on the return trip to the campground the truck stalled at a stop sign. It had started back up after some cranking. After driving about 1/8 mile it again stalled at another stop sign. It then started after some cranking, and remained running all the way back. Once at the campground it had started without any problem. I assume that the transfer pump is going bad, so I have ordered one from Genos which I will install today. My question is has anyone else experienced this problem, and is my diagnose correct. I will be returning home on Friday and the last thing that we need is to be stuck on the side of the highway.

What year is your truck, and are you still on the factory original LP?

I think your diagnosis is accurate, if the truck is older and has the factory filter-mount lift pump. Your symptoms have been reported many times in the past.

The pump was the original on our 2004, with 70,770 miles. I replaced it earlier today. So far so good. We will be heading home tomorrow, about a 100 mile trip. Thanks to both of you for taking the time to respond!

Did you just fill up with fuel? Be sure to drain the fuel filter and catch it in a container so you can check it for water.

My wife did fill up the day before, and then drove it about 20 miles, we then drove it another 20 miles before the problem started. When I drained the filter it did not appear to have any water in it.

I'm voting for the lift pump too. There have been a number of threads posted recently on this forum about lift pump woes. From what I've read, mileage isn't necessarily always a factor. Some guys have posted that theirs went after only 25K and one lucky soul got 141K out of his. I've got almost 94K on mine and several guys on here tell me I'm living on borrowed time. I've seen the Geno's kit and have one high on my "need to get really soon" list. The one thing that I noticed with the Geno's kit is that it comes with a pre-filter to install between the lift pump and the tank. I think that if a pre-filter were installed at the factory, it might help alleviate a lot of lift pump problems for those of us who don't have the in-tank lift pump.

I got 100k before my original started acted similarly. I replaced it with one straight from Cummins South here in Atlanta and hadn't had a problem in 125k, but, still run a pressure guage on it.
