DSS

Bought my truck about a year ago, I know the original owner, he had had some steering work done to it, track bar replaced I think, at about 70,000 km: 45,000 miles.

I drove the truck for four months, always handled OK. Six or eight months ago there was a lot of comments about the DSS on this site, over 30 pages and 40,000 reads. In April I fitted a DSS, made my Y2K even better to drive.

Just a pointer, when fitting the bolts into the frame, use a long centre punch or something similar to make sure you have everything aligned, sure don't want to cross thread anything, and it could happen.

I have fitted two, first one to my truck, second one to the 2002 the original owner of mine, bought. First one took a little over an hour, second one, half an hour.

Good luck.

Lets know the results.

:D :D Thats funny!! Actually one night a while back she was following me home from Denver and we were getting on I-25 Northbound from the mousetrap. Well, I forgot the box was on (set to kill of course) and I light it up getting onto the interstate. Lets just say all the headlights dissappeared in all 4 northbound lanes. She called me from her cell on mine and said she had the fan on in the exploder and she was now choking on Diesel fumes. :D Oops!!

I just put a DSS on my 94. Now it drives like a new one.

$150. 00 is not a bad price either. I thought about making one but I don't think you could get all of the parts and get the welding done for much less.

I am stumped here. I thought I needed a new track bar but thats not it, its tight. Thought I needed new tie rods becuase they would twist, read on here twisting is ok, popping out isnt. No apparent problems with the steering box either.

This thing is almost gut wrenching to drive and seems to be getting worse as time goes by. I am having thoughts of trading it off for *gulp* an 04. What is the deal???

Sir I have a 95 4x4 and the truck drives poor. I could not find anything wrong with the front end. I installed a DSS kit or what ever it is called from Piers. The trucks now drives better than it ever has. I still wont it better. I am going to rotate the front axle assembly to get max positive caster. I have seen the spec ts on alignment. If the settings fall into the wide spec ts then they say it is OK. Positive caster helps make the truck go straight, at the expense of steering effort. My steering stabilizer is original, but don't know which unit to buy. I wont life time warranty. Any ideas? Good luck JimK
