Nascar shops

Sounds stupid but I love these places now that I have Big Green- what are the best you have been to- I think we should have a nationwide rating system like Michelin does for restaurants- my two favorites- Franks Truck Stop off Military Highway in Chesapeake VA- great service - Three stars- Whites Truck Stop near Staunton VA on I 64/81- Hand washing bays, each fueling station has a huge clean bucket with long handled window squeegees and an air hose right there- at fuel desk there were six brands of fuel additive- I ran out of Power Service and got some and they sell tons of Mobil 1 Delvac and do oil changes there with that- Five stars- can't vouch for the food at either place.

I have found most real truck stops to be very accommodating and competitive in prices. I actively seek out Pilot and Jet stations here in the West, or make an inquiry on my CB to the truckers in the area. The upside to this all is that the popular sites have a fast turnover of their fuel.

I Swear by Pilot. <hr>

I like Flying J best, they have seperate RV fueling islands, usually cheaper fuel prices than the rest, and RV parking. I hate to spend the night parked next to a refer. If you get their RV card you get . 01 off price also.

I stop at White’s (Raphine, VA: I-81/64, Exit 205) on occasion and I agree it is well maintained and has more services to offer than many. For quick fuel and good prices I also like The Virginian at Tom's Brook, VA: I-81, Exit 291. I like to hit The Virginian going south and Whites going north.

Our hometown Pilot is probably the best in the state.

I drive I-40 from L. A. to OK City twice a year or so, and I LOVE Little America in Flagstaff, Az. I always try to give them some business. I also like the Pilot at exit 48, which is at Kingman. That Pilot always has great diesel prices.

The Acoma Indian Gambling joint known as Flower Mountain, at exit 48 in New Mexico, has pretty cheap diesel, but I have mixed feelings about supporting an Indian gambling joint. I compromise by NEVER going into the casino, I just pump, pay and leave.

Truck stop Restaurants

Avoid like the plague The Burns Bros. TA @ I 5 & 46 in CA.

Here is what I wrote to them, so far no response.

You people should be ashamed. The men's restroom is worse than a pig sty. In addition to the horrible odor of broken plumbing, the walls are covered with graffiti and was so filthy as to make one wonder if it is cleaned more than once every six months. When I return, I will inspect the mensroom first. If I find it unimproved I will walk out.

Perhaps this should be posted on the net. I'll see if I can't do that.

I don't remember if I signed that or no... Oh well

TA stops are usually pretty decent. I did stop in one TA Marathon station yesterday on I-65 in central IN that was a HOLE! The Petro truck stops are usually very nice and usually have good food at the Iron Skillet restaurants in them. The Petro is the nicest here, but the Pilot is more convenient most of the time and is always clean. Good fuel at both. Flying J's are all over the map for cleanliness and service in my experience. I do not stop at a Burns Bros unless I am running on fumes, I have yet to stop at a decent BB.

I don't have any good truck stops close to me, Springfield Missouri. The Texaco I use is higher then most of the QT's around here but they sell a lot of diesel to the big rigs. They also have the high cap. pumps so it does not take long to fill-up. I just don't understand why the big rigs stop there since their price is so high ( usually 2-3 cents higher), maybe they give a discount to the big rigs and I am paying retail. There is a TA truck stop out on I-44 but I figured it would cost me more in fuel costs (40 miles round trip) then I would save if their fuel was cheaper. I guess I will stick with the high volume but expensive and not very friendly Texaco. Wish I had a better choice :(

Flying J seems to be a bit less than Pilot in this area. I have been satisfied with the cleanliness of both at my stops. While I was in El Paso for a while I discovered Williams. Their station on I-10 was one of the cleanest places I have been.

Ditto on the RV or Frequent Fueler cards from Flying J. You get a 1 cent discount under $50. 00 purchases and a 1. 2 cent for more than $50. 00 w/ the Freq. Fueler card. Since it is convenient, why not get a break on the price when you can.

I like the Flying J or pilot. When I am on the road and needing fuel I trust these two places to top off the 100 gallon capacity I have and not worry about trash or water in it. I have waited in line behind 18 wheelers and they don't seem to mind waiting behind me. Rest rooms are clean and the Diet DR. Pepper is cold.

I like the layout and prices at Flying J but their service sucks. Hit Pilot when I can. Williams are nice but not alot of them.

Wildwood in FL is cool, so is Walcott in IA. BIG chrome shops.

There is a huge one between Winslow, AZ and Gallup, NM that is great. I love truck stops unfortunately there aren't any here in the Greater Losa Angeles area. :( On a side note I pulled into a truck stop on the way back from Vegas and couldn't figure out why the pump next to me had a credit card slot and mine didn't. At this point I had only owned the diesel about a week and thank God on the way in to complain I realized that tractor trailers fill up on both sides and I had pulled up on the wrong side.
