I have looked at quite a few brands of truck toppers/canopys. I have just about settled on a brand called Astro because of features and price. Has anybody got any advice and/or experience on this shell or any other advice they wanna pass along? If you've got a horror story or praise about this shell I'd love to hear about it.

My advice is to stay away from Leer. Way to pricey for what you get. I just had to send mine back to the factory for repair and when I got it back there was a ton of rock chips from the truck ride down there and back. I have only had it a year and there are numerous problems with it. I wont have another leer product.

I have a Astro, and it just OK. Bought it used for like $450 about 5 years ago. It's a high rise style with the little window in the top behind the cab.

It looks great, however it's a constant battle to keep the top window leak free. The fiberglass seems to be a thinner than the Leers. On the road I can see the sides flexing in and out (a lot) when going by big trucks or if the wind is blowing hard.

Just look everything over carefully.

Good luck, Ronnie

Not about your brand but, what happened to me when I tried to save a few bucks on a shell-

1st scratches on my truck were from the morons who tried to install my shell. I asked them if 2 guys could lift the shell high enough and get it into place without scratching my 1 week old truck. "Sheurrrr we can" was the reply. They proceeded to put scratches on both bed sides

To top it off the color match (Patriot Blue) was way off.

Out come was not to bad however. The "duh" cost them $650. 00 which was the paint shop estimate. The new shell from a different dealer matched perfect and covered most of the scratches. Shell ended up costing me $300. 00 :D

Ray...

I believe you are right about Leer. Evidently their quality was once really good but has hit rock bottom recently. It's hard for me to find anyone to say something but bad about Leer. There's a local Leer dealer here where I live and the salesman is full of... well you know. For installation of the leer top I wanted plus a bedrug he wanted OVER $2000 and that is not even their most expensive model. That's over $500 more than the next highest price I have found on any other top. What is it they say about a fool and his money? It's true I might have fallin' off the turnip truck but it wasn't yesterday... . ;)

I've got a Snug top(not right now--it's back at the factory for them to repair). I've had nothing but bad experiences with this thing!! The dealer has tried to help but the support he gets from the factory is slim to none. The windows leak-the plastic lip below the rear window has cracked on all three back windows they have replaced and I've called the factory customer relations department and left a couple of messages--big surprise--no call back. Sometimes I wonder if a real person works there--maybe it's just a voice mail box?? I think I'll buy a plastic tarp and they can take their topper and*****. Bottom line--don't buy a Snug top and expect any quality--I'm to busy fighting with the dealership about warranty issues to be messing with the topper too!
