Just looked at the new Truck Trend Mag. about coming changes in the 03 Dodge 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Sounds like they should be out about this time next year. Features, Cummins with common rail injection and a choice of a MB diesel, plus the new 1000 Allison transmission. The new 1500's are said to have a 500% stiffer frame, which provides a improved platform for the truck when it comes to the suspension, plus class leading safety features like side airbags. All of this is to be rolled in to the 3/4 and 1 tons for the 03 model year. With all of these improvements a body should be able to get a great deal in the coming year on a used Cummins, at least I hope that is the case :)

WOW

An Allison transmission would be perfect. I've got my down payment already drawing interest. But, Cummins or MB diesel, this would be an interesting decision. MB sure makes good diesels. Being in the UK right now and seeing all those huge MB diesels and you don't even hear them is really something. Now thinking about my 97 I still have and the killer dowl pin that has me worried, I might just be steered to the MB. Oh well see what happens. ;)

When Cummins changes to the common rail system and makes the other changes they are going to make to that new 300 HP ISB, it is going to be a lot quieter, too. Ohhhhhhh, yeahhhhhh. :D

Believe it when I see it

If you plan on BOMBing at all. . where ya gonna get parts for your alison?? I would almost put money on it that they have a nasty loose slimy converter in them. Any BOMBing will be transfered directly to your trans temp guage. Imagine having to have a NON DTT trans until Bill was able to brew up some alislime parts ;)

Let's be realistic. I for one like the sound of the ISB - if I want a gas engine, then I'll buy a gas. Maybe I'm old fashion - but I don't want a sissy sounding Honda engine. And let's not forget, that we're be at least 6-7 years out before they get the bugs out and over the growing pains.

Hammersly, I love the sound of the Cummins. This is my second. The above comments are in jest :p . The 300 hp ISB is going to be quieter, but I don't believe it will be quiet. Something I read about the Dmax last week said that the engine is quiet because they do a two stage injection. First a little fuel and then the big shot. However at 2500 RPMs it injects it all at once just like the Cummins. If you've been beside one on the Interstate, you realize that it's like all other smokin', chuggin diesels at that point. I'll dance with the one that brung me... ... Cummins :D .
