There's a truck for sale, private party, a 91 reg cab 2500 5spd(;) ) 4x4 with a stake bed. Its got 220,000 miles and has been well maintained. How much should I offer if I like this truck? He's asking $3500, which is a pretty good bargain already from what I see. Well, anyway, whats a good price?

In my own opinion, you're not out anything even at his asking price. Just shoot him an offer like $3200 and go from there.

Around the New England area, the Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com) values are fairly close to reality... . at least MOST sellers and buyers respect the given values..... the subjectivity being the vehicle's condition... . this leaves a good bit of negotiating room.

Good luck.

Stake bed? Well maintained, and 4x4 works, nothing major wrong with it, $3500 is a steal, if you can get it for $3000 thats murder. Bill

well maintained

If you are satisfied that it is really well maintained, the 3500 is a good price. But doesn't everyone add a bit to the asking price so they can dicker a little? You WILL have to spend some on the truck as the miles run up but at that price and with the reasonable expectation of another 200k+ miles, you will have a very cheap ride. That is just one of the reasons I will be:
