truck weight

I know this has been discussed a million times, but I couldn't find any useful info on a search. Here's the deal; I am thinking about getting rid of my 24' travel trailer and getting a slide-in camper. I am aware of the ridiculous fact that GVWR is the same on all 2500's despite my camper package etc. I am wondering what my truck weighs. Has anyone weighed thier 2001. 5 2500 quad cab, long box, 4x4, cummins, auto? I know I should go weigh it, but I have a large rack and tool box setup on the truck right now and don't want to spend a whole weekend taking all the crap off and putting it on again.

Also, anybody have an opinion on a light weight camper? I am looking at a Bigfoot 15C9. 5.

I suspect my truck weighs between 7,000 and 7,500 lbs without me in it! This will only give me a payload of 1,300 to 1,800 lbs!

Pretty sad for a heavy duty truck with a camper package!

We're close to the same setup and my rig weighs about 6900 lbs.

I have an 01 2wd long bed. My extra fuel may make it close to your 4wd. I weigh 7480 with just truck and fuel in the aux tank.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am in the ballpark of the 7,000 - 7,500 lbs, unfortunately every 100 lbs makes a big difference as to what camper I can carry.

Jlcc, that must be a big tank to weigh 580lbs plus a transfer case and front end!

I am not even remotely worried about the trucks capacity to haul a 2500 lb camper, but the last thing I need is to spend $25,000. 00 on a new camper and then get pulled over in a vehicle inspection and told I can't drive my truck and camper anymore

I think you got us confused. Mine is 6900 lbs and doesn't have a "tank" of any sort. I weighed mine at a local copper mine warehouse. They weigh the tanker delivery trucks going in and out. Only trouble is, I don't know if they weighed my truck before or after I got out of it to go get the scale ticket. So it could be +/- 240 lbs.

I have a 2001 Diesel 4X4 Dually Quad Cab. Just had it on a scale and it was 7200 with 1/4 tank of fuel. Oo.

O. K. I decided to rip all my stuff off and go weigh the truck. The result (according to the gov't scale) is 3170 kg or 6974 lbs. Weight was with me (180 lbs) and a full tank of diesel plus some of the regular crap in the cab in the underseat storage, glove box, etc. This is better than I thought as it gives me 1826 lbs capacity. I probably won't get too excited if I am a little over so I'll try to get a light camper around 2000 lbs. I am told that the authorities will usually grant you 10 percent leeway. I also won't have the tailgate on when the camper is on (must weigh 75lbs).

I suppose the rear bumper isn't really doing anything if I carry a 9 1/2 foot camper

The Northern Lite is near the top of my list as well. They are actually built just down the road from my office. I'll check out the snowriver. They must be built by the same company that builds Okanagan campers.

I got weighed at the I-5 weigh station in South Everett.

We have commercial scales at various locations in B. C. There is one a couple of kms (sorry, miles) from my office that is self-weigh. You simple drive on the scale and a big digital readout tells you the sad truth!

It's interesting how these trucks weights are all over the place. Mine weighed 7380 lbs on a certified scale with 1/2 tank of fuel and nobody and nothing in the truck. That means I normally weigh over 7600 lbs rolling down the road. Are training wheels that heavy?

Not necessarily the extra two wheels, but don't forget that our late model 2500's have alloys vs. the 3500's six steel rims. I don't know if that makes sense or not? But then take the six steel wheels vs. four alloys, throw in the dually fenders and wheel spacers and?

Six pack's 7,400 lbs with 3 extra people, my 6974 and jlcc's approximately 6900, all sounds pretty close for our 3/4 tons.
