Archived Truck will not run (idles but thats it)

"Water in Fuel " light was on last night , I put addidtive in topped the tank off and drained the filter canister. I started the truck after all that and all seemed well until this morning. I did leave the truck plugged in all night.

Truck will start (idles rough)but as soon as I give it any throttle it

it starts missing and sputtering. Lot's of white smoke too.

The temps were very cold last night 10-15 degrees.

I'm assuming fuel is jelled but don't really know what to do. It is supposed to be cold all week.

10-15 shouldn't be gelling like that with additive. Almost sounds like you may have a little water freezing in the fuel line. However, the white smoke indicates raw fuel. Make sure when you drained the filter that you got the drain valve closed all the way. She may be sucking some air when you try to throttle it.

I just rechecked that . I'm wondering if there is air in the fuel system. My drive is on a slight incline and that is where I drained the canister. I read your reply to my post and did that and started after but I still wonder if there is air.

How do you bleed the system of air ?

I am having the same problem. Truck has been running fine. Temps have been cold. Last night I started up truck and its idles fine. Put it in drive and it sputters, misses and dies. I was finally able to limp the mile home. By the time I got home the truck was blowing warm air into the interior, but truck was still sputtering and I still could not accelerate. I plugged it in so I will see this morning if there is any difference. Is this fuel jelling? No water indicator light came on. How do I correct problem? I've had 2 other diesels and this is the first time with this kind of problem.

You may need to change your fuel filter, it may have wax crystals built up in it.

Ditto change the fuel filter (wax and ice have built up because of the temp and running straight #2), when below 15 degrees run winter mix fuel (#1 mixed with #2).

i just changed the fuel filter 600 mi. ago. Would there be wax build up that quick?

Not sure about wax build up, but I have seen filters clogged well within the course of one tank. Never had it happen to me, but helped a guy on the side of the road it happened to. I figure if it is close to the cloud point, and there is a little water to help things along, it could well happen.

Was there water in your filter when you drained it? If there was water in it, and the engine didnot run long , at 15 degrees the water and wax will restrict fuel flow , and hang in the filter, even though its only a few miles old. . ----Well thats its job-- it gets cold around here, and so I change the fuel filter any time I get a water in fuel light , in winter time... Consider it good Insurance, against down stream problems. .

I deceided to have my truck towed to the dealer. Its still under warranty, I can't fit the truck in my garage and I didn't want to be messing with in the 5* weather. If I keep the rpm's up (foot on the fuel and the brake pedals)I can move the truck, but the second I let it idle it stalls. Tow truck operator said it's probably jelled fuel. I guess I'll find out Monday.
