For some reason today my truck will not shut off. Tried pushing down the shutoff solenoid, unplugging the relay finally had to just let it die by bogging it down in third gear!!! Just installed 4kgsk this weekend would that have anything to do with it??? Shut off fine fine sat. night and sunday.

98 12v 5spd 0plate and 4kgsk

Help

Thanks,

Chris

Most likely it's the starter contacts. Do a search, as this is a often discussed problem on this site. Starter removal is easy, as is disassembly. Clean up and swap the contacts for a quick fix or get new contacts for long term fix.

I think you are on the right track with the shutdown solenoid. It is still getting fuel and that is the first place to look. Another unlikely possibility is the seal in the turbo is shot and it's burning your engine oil. bg

Check the engine oil level, if it's ok then I wouldn't go any further on that. If it's missing a lot of oil, pull one of the boots off the charge air system and see if there is oil present. A little oily residue is normal in the charge air system. bg

Just another note on Turbo oil seal failures, if an oil seal goes on these, it will usually result in a runaway condition.

Only way it wont happen that way is if it fails on the exhaust side--- just gets blown out the exhaust and its quite noticable... . pure oil dripping out of the pipes and joints. (some does get burned off... but not all)

if turbo Seal fails on the compressor (intake) side..... we wouldnt be talking about it right now... . engine would have run away on its own oil and self-destructed. the governor doesnt work here, because it only regulates fuel delivery.

I was wondering about that. I figured the engine would run away. I took everything apart and it seems that the bracket that the shutoff solenoid attaches to came off the pump. Reattached and works fine Oo. Saves me some money!!!!
