Well it finally happened, my truck has gradually been getting worse with what i think is the ignition switch going out. When i turn the key off it will not kill the engine. I am able to kill the engine with the turbo cool down method on the attitude controler but thats it. What does it take to put a new key ignition in the colomn. Any other ideas as to what this is. My assumption is that the keys and the weight of the key ring has worn out the contacts inside?

Thanks for the help.

PS is there anyway to kill the engine with out trying to stall it?

My 94 did not shut off one day and it was the fuel shutoff solenoid. I just lifted it with my hand to shut it off. Turned out the connection was bad at the battery. Not sure if its the same on a 2000

What is your "attitude" hooked to, to be able to turn off engine?

You can try pulling relays in PDC to turn off engine (fuel system... ).

Getting to ignition switch should not be to hard. The steering colum casing should have screws that hold the two halfs together. I'll look at my service manual see if they have any clear instructions how to remove the ignition switch.

Hey man i just seen an old post of mine and i never got back to you to see what you found in our Manual. I am going to have to try to install a new ignition switch in the colom soon i bet.

To awnser about the Attitude shutting it off i have used the Turbo Cool Down feature and for some reason if i have the key out and that set to turn off below a temp (which i set to like 600 a nice high number) it will do so. I know odd but it does work.

Thanks

An other common cause has been the contacts in the starter solenoid sticking together , then back feeding to solenoid .

As JFaughn says. If the contacts stick it could cause the starter to remain engaged and damage it and the flywheel plus burn out the fuel shutoff solenoid. Worth checking out to save headaches and money.

I can be pretty positive that is not the issue since i had a new key made and so far i can just keep use that key with nothing on the key chain to run the truck, if i use a worn key it will not shut off. and so far this has been working. I still know i need to change out the ignition switch in the colomn. How difficult is that in a 2000. Remove steering wheel or just some parts of the colomn?

Thanks
