I am watching the "Welcome Home" parade on the news here in Colorado Springs and they showed a truck hauling an M1 A2 Abrams and was curious about the GVW.

They said the tank weighs almost 70 tons. The truck is a tandem with a drop tag axle. The lowboy trailer had a front load-distribution-type truck with 2 axle, then the trailer rear had 3 axles and a second load-distribution truck at the rear with 2 axles.

So, truck with 3 axles and trailer with 7, 5 axles in front of tank, 5 axles in rear.

Anyone have a guesstimation on what that weighs total? 140,000 pound tank plus? Maybe 180,000 pounds GVW?

Thanks, Nick

It's most likely an M1070 with a M1000 trailer. Curb weight on the truck is 46,000 pounds and the trailer is 50,000 pounds. With the Abrams in tow you are looking at 236,000 pounds dry weight. The gross combination weight rating is 246,000 pounds. That's one BMF. Has a 8V91 Detroit with 6 speed allison auto, dual 55,000 winches, and fuel economy ain't al that bad for what it does.

Oops, my BAD:D I just re-read your post and that would be the M911 HET with M747 trailer, the older truck. It was pretty well at max weight with the Abrams on it then. Very much the same truck, sam trans, same engine, the M1070 is much more refined and heavier duty though.
