I have a 01 and after letting it sit for a week I went to take it into town and it could barely make it out of my driveway, drove it into town came to a stop sign and went to take off and the motor reved up to 2500 rpm and about 3 seconds after it reved up the truck jerked a few times and then took off. pulled in to a parking lot checked the fluid level and checked it's color/smell. everything checked out so i drove home experiencing the same jerking at several stop signs. backed down my dirt driveway which slops downhill and tried pulling out and had the same problem, revved up to 2500 rpm sent out a bunch of black smoke and slowly started to make it's way out of the driveway. With the pedal to the floor it was not able to spin the tires on dirt. checked the temp gauge and it was at 165. made sure no calipers were seized,Is my transmission junk or could it be something simple? No codes after all of this either. Any help would be great.

transmission ?

Lots of questions. Automatic trans into gear, any change in rpm's or sound?

What is your fuel pressure at 2500 rpm? What is exhaust temp when held at 2500 rpm (no it won't hurt it. ) Be sure the oil pressure is ok and the black smoke should clear up within less than 5 ? seconds when throttle is held down. Muffler or Cat plugged ? symptoms sound like it might be possible, if so the exhaust temps would climb very fast. I'm sure others will have input in other areas of expertise. R C :(

it goes into gear normal with a normal slight drop in rpm, fuel pressure is good, oil pressure is good black smoke does clear up. straight piped. The truck feels like it's pulling a heavy load at all times, thats why I checked the calipers but those checked out fine, thanks for the response.

thats what i thought to but the truck rolls no problem in neutral, does this sond like a transmission issue or am i getting way to ahead of myself?

Jerking ?

I have only experienced jerking once. What I found----- on mine there is a wire that provides power to the Fuel Shutoff solenoid. It had caused problems more that once always easy to spot ( wire was vibrated off of the spade terminal) However this one time, the vibration had broken the wire

was completely severed from vibration, but the wire had not moved its position IT WAS TOUCHING AND STILL APPEARED TO BE PROPERLY CONNECTED. Then with engine vibration would lose contact at times,

thus the jerking intermittant contact. Another possibility on yours might be the computor sending intermittant signal. R C

when mine did that it was taking off in 2nd gear. You could shift it into first and away it went. It was some kind of sensor or whatever in the transmission. But yours might be the TC going out if it does it in reverse as well. -Jason

Sounds like a 2nd gear start could you fill the truck shifting gears? Gov. press sensor in the pan on the valve body.

When you are checking the fluid level, are you doing it in Neutral? Park will give bad readings.

Your problems sound like a low fluid issue, or possibly a clogged trans filter. When was the last time you had it serviced?

good luck

thanks for all the help guys, took it to the shop and had my mechanic take another look at it. He pulled the pan off and there was alot of clutch material and alot of metal on the magnet, I just did a transmission service 10k miles ago. Scott at mass diesel is going to set me up with a full DTT transmission with billet shafts and fly wheel. 500HP here i come. Thanks agsin for all of the help but wether it needs a full transmission or not I wanted to get a DTT down the road anyway so this just gives me a excuse.
