I got my Edge Comp today so I was very happy. I put it in right after work. As soon as I started the truck the water in fuel light came on. I'm new to diesel's so I did what any other 6 year old at christmas would do. I ignored it and went for a short ride. Truck ran ok but seemed to run out of steam up top.

Anyhow I came home and did some research on what to do about this water in fuel light. I found the drain for the fuel canister so I drained it bit. I hoped in the truck and started it up. Water in fuel light still on. It ran for about 10 seconds and died. So I cycled the lift pump about a total of 30 times now. I have loosened the line post filter to try and bleed out the air but still nothing. I can't get any fuel and yes there is almost a half a tank.

I guess I'm just having problems stmoaching that the lift pump was good before I drained the canister and it's bad now. The truck has 112k. As far as I know it the original pump. I added gauges but not a fuel gauge yet. So I do not know what the pressure was. Does someone make a test gauge that isn't 200 dollars?

Could I be missing something or is my lift pump bad?

If the pump was weak to begin with could I have taxed it and wiped it out by adding the comp?

If it's bad what should I replace I replace it with? Another lift pump or is there something better?

Isn't it weird that the water in fuel light came on imediatly after installing the comp?

Good thing the Vegas trip was last week with the way my luck is ruinning today.

Did you tap the pump wire, Me thinks yes you did, but did you tap the right one out of the two?? The last thing you did was install the Comp.

Food for thought

Yes I did tap the pump wire. I followed thier direction completely. I taped the top wire it was closest to the block. I'd say I'm 90% sure it was the right wire.

Would tapping the wrong wire wipe out the pump. The wire is on the injector pump not the lift pump right? Would that affect the lift pump? Anyhow I drove the truck for 13 miles like that. Started it and stopped it a dozen times. It only failed to start after I drained some fuel from the canister.

You will be getting alot of advice on this one, but this will get you started.

Try tracing the wire for the water in fuel sensor , it could be unplugged.

The lift pump is dead if it will not fill the canister. The injector pump will feed itself as long as it is primed.

When you drained the filter canister you lost prime and the dead lift pump didn't pull any fuel from the tank. It will sound like it is working but trust me, no fuel, no workie. Replace your lift pump and everything should be good to go.

Also get a fuel pressure guage right away. Good luck ... ... ... ..... Jim

I would start by looking for wires that you knocked loose during installation of the Comp, other than that it sounds like the lift pump is dead and probably was before hand. Check out ADT in my signature they have the test gauges pretty cheap or you could make one just like it if you have a HVAC supply house around to get the hose with schrader fittings on it like I did.

Thanks for the info guys that makes more sense to me now.

Since I'm gonna have to throw 150 bucks at it I as may as well use part of that to upgrade the system. Which system should I go with, best bank for the buck? Future plans for the truck would maybe be to add injectors probably 1. 6's and a better clutch but that would probably be about it.

As for the ground I grounded it to the intake bolt by the other ground strap like the directions said. Should I move it?

Thanks Rob

I wouldn't say that is causing your problem, but many people have better results by grounding straight to the battery.
