Hey guy's Maybe you can help me out? I have a 2000 ram 2500. I'ts pretty much stock except for 4" exhaust. It has 142,000 miles on it, and about a year and a half ago I replaced the lift pump. Then another 6 months, the crank-speed sensor. Well, Iwent out the other day and it wouldn't start. I'ts showing a P1693 code. My friend say's injector pump, fass, and a fuel pressure guage is where he would start. anyone else got any ideas? I'm new to diesel trucks' so please speak slowly. Any information on how to fix my truck, and avoid this in the future, are greatly appreciated. If it is an injector pump, are all rebuilds the same? Thanks, Waiting for help.

Ok, here we go again

The P1693 code means "P1693 (M) DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC

Detected in ECM. A 9Companion DTC9 was set in both the ECM and PCM. " What did he say? Check TTMT's Thread on the Trouble codes at: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96634

In English it roughly means that the PCM (Mopar) has sensed that there is a Trouble Code in the ECU (Cummins). It's kinda like a bad marriage, He "Is there something wrong?" She "MAYBE There IS!" In other words the PCM Can't communicate completely with the ECM. You need to get a code scanner that speaks Cummins. If you know someone with a hot rod ram, see if you can get them to hook up their Smarty, he (SMARTY) speaks cummins :D

The odds are that the VP44 is dead :{ Mine died at after pulling out of a stop light, Dead engine no run coasted to a stop. It was a Sheared Rotor Shaft, New rebuilt pump = All better Oo.

You need a Fuel Pressure gage as, any pressure under 6 PSI puts the VP44 at risk. I would also change out the factory (Carter) Lift Pump. I ended up with a Glacier Diesel Power GFS Lift Pump kit, and I am verry happy with it. http//www.glacierdieselpower.com/product. asp?pf_id=3929852

Good luck, Moose

Change the fuel filter, take the out side off the filter housing and bump the key, the lp should fill the housing and let the fuel drain in a bucket or jar.

If it wont fill the fuel canister and run out the small vinyl hose you put in the hole,to drain into your container, look at glacier diesel.

I ordered mine friday and hope it will be here tomorow or wed.

I already did the vulcan 1/2 inch lines,(they are biodiesel compatable) and the draw straw. Here

If you can get the truck to run, autozone will pull the codes free, write them down and have him clear them.

Good luck, hope it works out for ya

What those guys said...

Try cracking open the 1,3,4, and 5 injectors with a 19mm wrench. Bump the starter and let the lift pump build pressure. Then have someone crank the starter and watch at the injectors.

If fuel is coming out, tighten them down and try starting again.

If fuel isn't coming out, there's no fuel getting to them.

Check 1) is there fuel in the tank, 2)is the lift pump pumping when you bump the starter, 3)if it is, how much is it pumping, is the fuel foamy or bubbly.

1) is easy. 2)if the LP isn't pumping, it's either dead or not getting power. 3)if it is pumping, and the fuel's not bubbly or foamy, start thinking VP44. If it is pumping, and the fuel is coming out foamy or bubbly, you're getting air in the lines.

Hopefully this'll get you started enough to get a code reader on it.

If you're going to do this, you need guages and probably a shop manual. Try Geno's.

Let us know how it works out.
