I have an idea!
Hey Jon, I finally installed my Blue-Chip pump cover last night and looked pretty closely at the set screw locations as provided by Blue-Chip Diesel. I personally found them to be almost exact... easily within +/- . 005 of target (if you saw underneath the cover of my '98. 5 VP44 you would know what I'm talking about). I inspected this rather closely as I installed all five hold down cover bolts and ran the set screws in until each left a witness mark at their respective locations. After removal of the cover for examination I discovered that the Blue-Chip ground point is the end solder point (of qty. 4), all of which are very close to one another. I was just wondering...
is it possible that you screwed the set screw over the grounding point on the VP44 hard or deep enough to touch the adjacent solder terminal? If so, I would suspect a catastropic demise of the VP44.
just a thought
