Truck wont start

I was driving down the road tonight and all of the sudden my truck cut out like it was starving for fuel. After mashing on the throttle, the truck would continue to run for about 10 seconds and then cut out again. Finally, the truck died. After I started the truck, I continued down the road for about 1/4 mile until it did the same thing. The next time it died it would not start back up. I replaced the fuel filter 2 days prior so I dont think that would be a problem. I was thinking maybe the fuel shutoff solenoid or lift pump went south.

I would really like to hear possible suggestions or things to check out. Any help is appreciated.

Some times the connector on the fuel solenoid comes loose or gets fray'd.

Check that first. Then check that the fuel filter is snug (no air getting in).

Next, check that the lift pump is in fact working by loosening off the low pressure bleed screw on the side of the engine block. You'll see it just back of the inj. pump, then pump the lift pump lever. Don't forget to return it to the UP position when you're done.

After that the fuel solenoid itself may be bad. Remove the wires, then carefully remove the top. Go slow, there is a couple little pieces/springs or something inside/bottom. Do you see any filings? If not, leave the guts out of it and try starting/running the truck. If it works good then you know the solenoid is bad. You'll have to use the manual shutdown lever to turn it off till you get a new solenoid.



Guys, if I've made any mistakes in this description, please correct it for us... . I've never had this happen to me personally and I am repeating what I recal nascar mark saying.
