95, 2500, 5 speed ,165,000 miles, dowel pin tabbed, 250 miles on new tank of fuel, usually goes 600 miles between fill ups.

Truck was running fine. Stopped at store for 20 minutes. Started truck ,but no power, slowly died ,started again after much coaxing, but slowly died again, would not start again. Batteries are new ,starter turns engine over plenty fast. Replaced fuel filter and checked prefilter for trash. Primed with manual pump still won't start . Pre filter was in good shape, fuel filter was very clean, no water or dirt. Return fuel line was replaced last year. Still won't start. What do I look at now?

Are you sure there's fuel in the tank? (Sorry, had to ask)

Fuel shutoff solenoid? Is it lifting all the way up and staying there when it's on?

Are you sure your lift pump is pumping fuel? Maybe open the bleeder on top of the fiter housing and pump the primer to confirm it's pushing fuel. When mine went, a check valve failed so it would move it back and forth, but not make any pressure.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Truck is running again. Used your suggestion to bleed the filter bleed screw. Lots of air bubbles. I did not add additional fuel as I said I would. Still can't understand why it would not start, almost like vapor lock, does that happen? While I was in there I looked at my overflow valve. Spring was shy of 1/2 inch so stretched to 1/2 inch . My spring had a shim washer about . 020 on top. Is that normal to have a shim? Should that shim be added to the length of the spring for the 1/2 inch length? Comments from everyone please!

I had the same problem. I was getting air in the system just before the lift pump / fuel heater. The line from the tank goes into the top of the fuel heater. This fitting has a chunk of rubber hose inside to make a compression seal. The hose was all cracked to the point that it was letting in air... I pumped that dang lift pump till my arm went numb... and all I got was bubbles in the fuel filter housing. Went to Cummins NW and got the little piece of rubber for like $. 60. All better.

I have a source for overflow valves that maintain 30 psi for $15. 00 if you want to replace it. Let me know.
