Off Roading Looking for thoughts on some ?'s I have

Competition Sled Pull Dickson TN

Just curious any news or reports from truckfest? Hope it didn't get rained out? I know it downpoured on Saturday according to my railroad people I work with.

Curious to see if the Banks Sidewinder made any passes and if so what were they?

Truckfest

Been trying to reach MADDOG, no luck yet :(

He hoped to get a grudge match race with Banks

D@$#, wish I coulda been there to put that flippin sidewinder on the trailer:mad:

I'll catch them in Palmdale this fallOo.

Quick for now:

Banks, 12:19 or so best pass

Bentz's Diesel Dragster, 9. 31 / 139. 6

Still running, had some rain, clearing up. 6:35 PM Denver time...

MADDOG was having transmission problems all day. It was a bummer I sure would have liked to see a good run from him. ATS's Dodge was the fastest truck when I left with a 12. 9. Richard's first run was a low 13s with the transmission problem's.

Spoke To The Dawg

Richard said Banks ran about 12:20 at over 114 which he(Richard) or I would be able to cover. He didn't do so good. The truck fell on it's face on the first run cause he only had 1/4 tank. Added fuel and red lighted on the next run. Not so good unfortunately. He did log a 1. 70 60' which is amazing considering the mass of his truck.

Rain delay has them still going through eliminations as I type this.

Sounds like Clint hurt the Dmax. Engine got hurt is the word.

Getting back to Richard's truck, transmission is going to have to come out. Sounds like the forward clutch is toast. The triple surface converter lock up clutch puts all the strain on the forward clutch. He is still learning the limitations of the Ford E4OD.

Wish I could have been there:{

I am VERY VERY Curious what happened to the 'Max. Maybe a headgasket?

Sounds like there was some good competition!

had a good time, met some new people. man there were a lot of modified diesels there- i should have run.

that cummins dragster is sweet.

blown turbo on a burnout on that member from California.

Maddog did hurt his transmission (left the transmission in street mode when going down the track), but otherwise his truck is awesome... . doesn't smoke much for the power it has.

there were a bunch of TDR members who i didn't get the chance the meet, but a bunch of nice trucks anyways.

Mine was the black one the spectator parking lot with Maine plates on it.

What an awesome day! I have never seen so many modified diesels in one place... I knew it was going to be my kind of event when I pulled in and the traffic director guy just assumed I was going to race and didn't want to let me drive into the spectator parking lot

Mine was the dark blue and silver 1st gen 4x4 ext cab dually with Alaska plates, in the spectator parking

The Sidewinder and the Cummins-powered rail job were amazing. I felt sorry for the guy in the green 2wd with California plates, it sounded mean until halfway into his burnout

I was also surprised to see how some of the trucks were launched... . 4wd low range, dump the clutch, frame twists all out of shape, then around the 60 foot mark you can hear the "scrunch" as they jerk the t-case into high range... I've never dragged a 4wd (except the occasional stoplight war) but have been involved in 4x4's for years and can't imagine abusing the transfer case like that. Probably the difference between being serious about dragging and just an enthusiast. Of course, no offense to anyone who launched their truck that way...

Anyways, it was a great time and I will definitely be there next year!

It was mentioned above that MADDOG left the line with his transmission running the wrong program. I thought I'd provide some explanation regarding what happened. The transmission relies on a electronic controller similiar to the Emjay device. He can program shift points, lock up, and line pressure. The race program runs higher line pressure to hold the power. He left the line in the daily driver mode and it is suspected the forward clutch is toast:(

The green two wheel drive truck is Jake from Sacramento ca. He runs every Wednesday at Sac raceway and does well in the brackets. Somebody got lucky he broke, cause you can't beat him in brackets. He posts as Drag Diesel.

JVan', I don't think the 4x4's are launching in low range. They usually launch in hi and then kick the xnsfercase into 2H for the rest of the run. FYI :)

9's ... cool!!!

Good show Steve!

Sorry I missed the fun.

I couldn't get the kinks worked out of the 12v (98 with stacks) in time. The new twins are looking nice but the NOS isn't on and the the rest of the motor didn't get buttoned up as fast as I'd like.

I'll have to give Clint and crew a yell to see how they fared.

Hopefully we'll get the the old goat shook down by week's end to make the KC dyno day.

Later,

Mark

Race Results

Lots of Diesels, some stock and some modified. Meet some nice people. Most not fimular with TDR, hope I sold some of them on joining. The rain was a bummer, but true to Colorado "if ya don't like the weather wait 5 minutes". When they got back to racing the air temp had dropped about 20 degrees. Alot of drivers were breaking out. Made for some good side by side racing with either the Slam of the brakes at the end or a bluff with the tail lights.

Does anyone know of a site to get all the race results. I looked at the Bandimere site but they haven't posted anything yet. I got disgusted at the end and left, just wondered if it was a Chevy or a furd to take the ATS Diesel Shootout?

I know a Chevy (gas powered) took the Pro Truck, a furd (gas powered) took the 2wd (won it by redlight, the other guy was in a Chevy) and left before the 4 x 4s and ATS Classes finished.

was it the Hx-35 or the 40 that you blew up? sounded good on the spool up;)

Garrett- what color truck was/is yours?

i've seen a few duramaxes go down the track before, but it surprised me to see a few of them jump so hard off the line:eek:

Tom

Tom,

No kidin', me and a buddy went over to the east side to get as close to the tree and track as we could after the rain. Watching that dark grey D-max launch was impressive. And what was up with the dodgeless burnout contest?

My trucks a Driftwood QC with American Racing Crome Rims, after-market fog lamps mounted low on the front bumper. And a @#$% dent on each QC door (hard to miss).

Heres the scoop straight from Richard (Maddog) himself :

The transmission issue had nothing to do with the problem of running down the track, it was a fueling problem. Some dumb A$$ did not put enough fuel in the tank and because the bulk head fitting is in the bottom center of the tank with the hard launch all the fuel would get pushed to the back of the tank. The tank is long and narrow and had maybe 5 gals. of fuel in it. I made three runs with this problem and finally my brain figured it out I found a guy that had 5 gallons but unfortunatly I had lost in the first round so I went and asked the track owner if I could jump in at the tail end of the second round and run solo (he said sure) so after the rain delay I got my fourth and final chance. The truck launched harder than it ever had (and on the second run I had a 1. 7 60') and pulled like there was no tomorrow all the way down the track. I actually red lighted but my main concern was to leave with 25 to 30 pounds of boost. With the way the day had gone so far it was fitting that when I stopped to get my time slip they said the clock had not reset and so no time slip The last run is on video so I will get it up soon. Just some food for thought but on my 2nd run my 60' and 330' was quicker than the Banks sidewinder and then I lost fuel. Now for the transmission, after the first run I lost reverse, but the forward gears worked fine. The truck was driven 650 miles pulling a heavy duty trailer with a crew cab Chevy Dmax on it and did great pulling the grades in the Rocky Mountains. I then drove the truck home with the Dmax pulling the trailer. It looks like the problem is a shift solenoid.

Awesome

What a great show!I have never seen soo many diesels waiting for the chance race. While staging i counted 4 to 5 lanes 15 -20 deep,i know i saw more just couldn't count fast enough!!Thanks ROCKY Mt. CUMMINS/ATS and everybody who worked so hard to make this happen.

You are WELCOME!

Believe me, the thanks go to all of you coming and having fun. We had a ball meeting a lot of you and hearing the stories.

PLEASE tell me what you want different for next year, as we are already planning for it and making a few changes.

Sounds like Richard fried his forward clutch pack. We had a truck do that a couple days ago. Kinda weird, works great going forward, but backward it still goes forward!!! :D

Pull the solonoid pack off and it will still go backwards because reverse is a mechanical function.
