Anyone order from these guys before? I ordered a hitch, ball mount and ball on Monday. Today I got an email from them:

Dear Nathan Dionne,

We recently received an order with your contact information on one of our auto parts websites. In the interest of protecting our customers from fraud, our system automatically flags potentially fraudulent orders for verification. Please contact me at (949) 900-8359 at your earliest convenience. If this is a legitimate order, we want to get you your ordered parts as soon as possible. Due to the amount of frauds we receive I need to ask for your help by faxing or e-mailing me a copy of both sides of your credit card and your Drivers license/id so that I can verify who you are and that you are authorized to charge this order. My direct fax number is (949) 900-8379. If we don’t receive copies of id and credit card from you within the next 7 days this order will be automatically cancelled.

Thank you,

I'm gonna call them later on (1AM right now), but this whole thing sounds real fishy to me. Email or fax my credit card and driver's license?? I'm wondering if this webpage is a "front" for some kind of indentity theft or something?

You've GOT to BE Kidding

Does this guy have an uncle who has a bank in say Nigeria where they also have a need to give you money from a long lost dead uncle??????

I placed an order with them, so it's not like this email arrived for no reason. Check out the site, seems legit. Would someone go to all that work to scam people?

I don't see what cause my credit card to show up as bad? It's actually a debit/credit card that pulls $$ from my checking acount. I've had this card since '97 and never had an issue like this.

tems that are in stock usually ship the same business day. Orders must be placed, payment verified, and security cleared by 3:00pm EST. Merchandise is shipped complete, properly packaged, and insured, via the service you select. Occasionally an item is oversold. If this is the case, we will fill the orders on a first come, first serve basis.

Sounds Strange but it must be there thing

DANGER!! God what ever you decide don't send scans of your credit card driver's lics. Call them with the phone number on their website. If you don't feel this is legit, cancel the order or tell them you will send them a POSTAL MONEY ORDER!. Using the US POSTAL MO, if they try to do anything wrong it is the US goverment that will go after them. This does not sound right to me at all. I would not do this !!!

looks like there are too many policies... ... . must be run by lawyers and not performance people.

"Caveat Emptor" should be the title of that webpage.

I agree do not send your credit card and driver license information by fax to anyone.

If they don't want your business there are plenty of other people out there who sell the same items that won't make you jump through hoops.

How do you know that is not an employee of this company who is improperly using your information. She may be having people fax this information and taking it home and going on shopping sprees.

My wife and I were hit by fraud on our Check Cards, we were lucky that we caught it early and got is stopped at about $300. 00 but it was a pain in the rear end, the local police even accused my wife of being in on the fraud.

Total BS the way the police department handled the complaint.

Our bank warned us about people in check out lines with these cell phones with cameras in them, what happens is you are in line and you have your credit card out not thinking anything about it, in the mean time the bad guy or girl is acting like they are looking up numbers on their cell phone when in fact they are taking photos of your credit card, all they need is picture of the front and one of the back with the three digit code and they can charge up your card.

After learning this I remembered a Hispanic male behind us in line at a publix shopping center acting strange with his cell phone, it was a phone with a camera in it, he was acting like he was looking up numbers and having a hard time reading them by the way he moving the phone around, what I think he was doing was taking pictures of my wifes check card.

These people then either use the numbers them selfs or they sell the information to others to use.

In our case some one went on a cell phone buying spree, they replaced about 6 cell phones by way of some insurance deductible charges and then started buying new cell phone service, they even bought a bottle of water at one cell phone store where they activated new service.

This was all determined from our bank by them pulling up the account activity. Can you believe that the bank could pull all of this information yet the police department could not figure out what to do.

They ended up closing the case and accusing my wife of being part of the fraud.

The funny part is all these charges occurred in Miami, Florida on the East coast and my wife is in Cape Coral, Florida on the West coast.

I wrote a letter to the police department involved and let them know it was BS and they just let the matter die.

Ok, get this. .

I just called them...

Asked me for my name, address and a phone #, all of this I provided when I ordered the stuff.

"Ok, I confirmed your identity, I'll ship that stuff out to you"

So it went from needed a copy of my credit card and license to a simple verbal confirmation?

Seems very weird to me.

They have a nice website, full blown phone system with customer service, etc. Seems like alot of work and money put into a scam operation if that's what it is.

That does sound pretty odd. Even if everything turns out to be fine, I don't think it hurts to be overly cautious.

Just a heads up. My mom ordered some stuff online a few months ago. Didn't have any problems placing the order or receiving the product or anything. However, about a month ago she received an email from the company stating that they never charged her credit card for the order and that they were going to put through a charge to pay for the order. She had used her check card so she checked her statement and sure enough they had charged the card for the order. So she called them and told them that the order had been paid for. They argued with her that it was probably just the temporary authorization and that they never did charge her for the order. So she ended up going to the bank and they put a stop payment on any transaction from that company and issued her a new card.

I just wonder how many people don't ever check their statements or even think twice about this kind of stuff.

Jeff

I would give her a call, no way I would send them that info! I dealt with them back in aug and they didn't ask me for any of that info. Also try to contact her thru the customer service # on the website because the one in the E-mail could still be bogus.

I keep track of my expenses for sure. I'm an E4 in the Air Force, so I don't have tons of cash just floating around. Every penny gets tracked!

You should have just gone and seen Dave Kellerman at the muffler shop on the edge of town on the way to Boise. He's Ret. A. F. will treat you right.

I think its called Daves Mufflers. He probably didn,t have what you got sitting on the shelf but he would have gotten any thing you wanted. You should spend your money local. The businesses in Mtn. Home can use it.

I'm all about spending my money locally, but not when it's 4x the price. That would just be stupid on my part. I'm not rich... I'll go where the price is cheaper (within reason).

Ok, So I emailed "Tammy" last night... .

Hi.

I called the customer service line and talked to one of the reps. He was able to verfiy the order by askign me for my contact info. I'm not sure what the deal with sending copies of my credit card and driver's license was, but it sure sounds like some kind of scam to me. Your company has myself and several others a bit worried at this point.

Nathan

And then she responds this morning:

IN THE SAME FASHION CUSTOMERS CONCERN US WHEN THEIR BILLING INFO THEY PROVIDE COMES BACK NOT MATCHING WHAT THE BANK HAS AND THEREFORE I HAVE TO CALL AND VERIFY THE ORDER AND AM TOLD THAT NO ONE BY CUSTOMERS NAME WORKS AT COMPANY PHONE NUMBER YOU PROVIDED. PROVIDE ME WITH A GOOD NUMBER SO I CAN CALL AND VERIFY THIS ORDER OR THIS ORDER WILL NOT SHIP BECAUSE NO ONE CAN

VERIFY ORDER THAT ARE IN MANAGEMENT REVIEW IN OUR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT.

THANK YOU

INVOICE CLERK

Ok, now there's no where on the order form for company info. Why would they need to know where I work? I never listed any work phone number, so how the heck did she call my work? The only phone number I provided was my home number.

Ok. I called customer service and they transferred me to Tammy when I asked about my order. I didn't want to call the # she provided since I wasn't convinced Tammy was an actual person.

I talked to Tammy and what happened is the card was kicked back for the address being wrong. It's not, but for whatever reason, it was kicked back.

Why she emailed me was I had a typo in my phone number, so she couldn't get ahold of me. It's 591-xxxx, well I put 590-xxxx. So, she couldn't get ahold of me. Now I guess the 590 is an actual # and of course I wouldn't be found at that #s :-laf

I told her that the email she sent raised a red flag for me, she should have just emailed saying they had questions about my order and to call or something like that, and she apologized.

So, I guess at this point I was over reacting. Hard know these days with all those scammers and dishonest people you know.

Sounds like someone was pfishing. When using a credit card, always, always, always check the address line and make sure that it starts with..... https://

The "s" at the end says that it is a secure website. If it don't have the "s", don't send the number.
