Just over 211000K or about 131000miles. Originall vp44 with pump wire tapped. I have replaced lift pump once. Installed pusher pump to prevent furture lift pump failures, mimize the effect.

I have just over 94,000 miles. I have been through 2 replacement stock LP's (out of pocket) and recently had the intank pump installed (warranty). I just had my fourth replacement VP installed earlier this week (all under warranty). The first VP was at 55,000 miles and the last 3 have been in the last month and 2000 miles. According to the dealers, I got 2 bad remanufactured pumps from Dodge. The dealers (Medved Dodge in Castle Rock and Carlin Dodge in Colorado Springs) have been awesome about this problem and replacing them under warranty. I only problem I ran into was one of the dealers previously refused to replace the LP under warranty, so I had it done out of pocket. Medved later volunteered to replace my last LP with the intank conversion.

I hope my newest VP and LP last a while (100,000 miles is only a month or so away).

;) 170,000+ turns and still going strong on my original VP. I have never lost a LP, but did replace it at around 40,000 if I recall with a FASS 150 GPH as I did not trust it. I also opened my fuel lines up to 3/8ths I. D. all the way from the tank to the VP and added a fuel cooler just before the VP. Good clean fuel, a bottle of Power Service once every other month and we don't really worry about it. ;)

215K MILES on the original VP44. Changed first (working) lift pump at 110K when I installed a gauge and saw 6psi at idle and 0 at WOT. Changed again at 200K when I went with Vulcan relocation kit and I got 3 of the campaign kits for $64 each! Really would suggest you all at least test your lift pump or install a gauge with 160,000+ on them. Statistics say that you are very close to failure. Carter electric fuel pumps are not known to live long, especially in the stock location pulling fuel up to the engine. Passing a truck or middle of a snow storm would be a bad time to lose one. . :{

So are the VP's prone to dieing even if the lift pump is supplying good pressure ? I have a fuel pressure gauge and always monitor the pressure, aswell as a Vulcan relocation kit. For the most part... should I be okay ?

I think the LP might be on its way out, 11psi at idle and down to 7psi when I put my foot in it. The needle bounces around bettween those numbers on occasion.

Idealy you want to hold 15 psi if you can. That is where my system is set at and with a 3/8th ID fuel line all the way to the VP, I do not worry about starvation to the VP for potential volumn of flow. ;)

I have read that there are some "bad" pumps out there, identified my your engine number. Do a search. Brand new lift pumps show 15 or so in my experience, slowly age and produce less consistent pressure readings. If you are seeing intermittent sweeps down below 8, keep a spare on hand. The relay in the pump is probably going The campaign kits are definitely they way to go. 3 for the price of one!

My current truck has 153,000 miles on the clock. Since I just bought it about 3 months ago I can't say for certain that the pumps are original but they look dirty enough to be. The lift pump is weak though. It's easy to pull it below 5psi which I consider the low end limit for proper filling of the VP44.

Had 142K on original LP, didn't wait for failure. Swapped in an Airdog, still have the original VP though 161K now.

128,000 miles, and still running original lp, and vp. Fuel pressure drops at wot, but considering that the vp is drawing fuel this is not a surprise.

How much were the parts for the lift pump and the injector pump? I've been quoted $1,450 for both plus labor. Is that a reasonable price?
