You need to "sign on" with Horizon. You have to have all of their equipment, do the whole orientation as far as i know, also it says "Must be 25 years old" which to my i thought was age discrimination since federal law only requires you to be 21.

Honestly, I don't know anything about Horizon. The people I talked to at the Camper Barn didn't say anything about that. It's entirely possible if they called us back, that they'd expect us to go through some kind of equipment check/requistion and get an orientation.

I got the impression that they had more than enough names, that from here on out it was, "Don't call us, we'll call you. "

I think you'll find that most commercial carriers have a minimum age... it saves a TON on insurance, and they don't even have to switch to GEICO ;)

Interesting is that legal though? I understand they can say you must have X years of experience, but saying you must be 25, is that not age discrimination? 21 is the federal age for driving interstate as well as getting a CDL.

<- Still 24 for a few days

You can discriminate on any basis you want in this county. IF you can prove it is essential to the operation of your business. That is why you don't see dude's working at Hooters. They were sued for sexual discrimination. They won the case saying that allowing guys to work as servers would be detrimental to their business. In the trucking business, if the insurance companies require atronomical insurance premiums for drivers under 25 years old, then it is well within the rights of the business not to hire anyone that isn't older than 25. If the premiums were the same for both age categories, then yes, it could easily be age discrimination.

Not to get even farther off topic here, but you can get a CDL when you're 18, but you can't drive interstate until you're 21 - you get a K restriction (at least in VT its a "K"), which is the "Intrastate only" restriction. I got a class B back in June, and I won't be 21 for another 2 weeks here... .
