Trucks With Over 250,000 Miles

Just bought a 1992 D250 with 262,000 miles. Would like to know if there is many trucks with high mileage without a rebuild

There are alot of high mileage trucks with no rebuilds. . all it boils down to is maintaining the vehicle properly. The more fuel you add, the faster it will break down the motor. . It will still go quite a long time, but every engine has a finite life span. You have nothing to worry about. I had a 1991 D250 which was about to approach the 300k mark when I sold her... I needed something with more power! You have nothing to worry about though.

Just turned 270,000 on Sunday. No big rebuilds that I know of, might tear down the bottom end at 300k to see what it looks like. I'll just keepon driving till she quits on me. Watch out for the transmission though, I am getting a Goerend Bros. transmission on December 18. Early Christmas present.

I forgot to add, my 1998. 4 is about to hit the 200k mark, probably by the end of the year!! Some miles, hard pulling, some highway, all stylin' and profilin' miles!

Test drove a '96 3500 last week that had 429,500 on it. If it had the odometer rolled back you wouldn't know it, it ran and drove as good as one with 30,000. Only thing done was a trans rebuild @ 400,000 (5 spd)

When my 2000 broke 500,000 I rebuilt my 5sp transmission. Other than that she's original. Stock with 506,000. :--)





Just got back from Los Banos, Ca. on a hard haul. My baby now has 513K.

I'm changing oil once a week.



Oh my, Got back from N. C. My baby has 521,000 already. Got to do front breaks. Oo.

My 91 has 263K, been rode hard and put away wet many times by previous owners. Only thing I've HAD to do was the head gasket (ran 10K before I figured that out) and the turbo (turned up pump, no pyro, hot shutdowns- previous owners). I still have the cross hatches in the cylinders. Uses a little oil, but I think that is a combo of injectors (one pops at 500PSI ), rear main leak, and not putting in the new valve seals with the HG job. (I know, 20 hp penalty). Mom's have 240K, been in tha family for over 100K; one I traded my 91 for had 245K at the trade in March. Know a guy here in the swamp who is pushing 600K. I would have no problem buying one with under 500K.

Alternator rebuild 300,000

Starter contacts 220,000

#3 injector line last week

Auto transmission rebuilt 160,000

transmission now has leak in rear seal

Engine leaks a little oil

I wouldn't trade it for anything I know of!!!!!!!

I have a 2001 and looking in the factory service manual it says the odometer will not go beyond 500,000. I would think the 2000 is the same as a 2001. Does your's continue on, stay at 500,000 or start over?

Yes it goes to 999999

My 2000 is reading now 522,000 and still going.

A friend of mine has a 94 and his reads 999999 plus that was a year ago. :--)

In September, 2002, I stopped at the Colorado/Kansas border to help a guy in a first generation CTD who was a commercial RV transporter. He'd suffered a broken wire on his injector pump and I had the right stuff to help. In response to some of my questions, he told me he'd bought the truck in 1992 and had been pulling with it for all of those years. He said he took the month of July off from the road so he could rebuild his engine. At the time of the rebuild it had 790,000 miles!

my ole buddy Tom bought another CTB but still enjoys driving hi 94 which had 999,999 on it last year. The only complaint he has with his ole friend is uses a little too much oil.
