True or False: shell with compression boot rubs/scatch cab paint

I'd like to get a shell for my 2500. I really don't care about something that is completely water tight but I really don't like to have the idea of an extra window between the cab and the shell.

I went to a local shell dealer and he advised against the compression boot because allegedly it rubs the paint. At first I was like, ok, it makes sense, but then reading around it seems that it's a myth: the compression boot sits against the window and never touches the paint of the cab.

Anyone out there has direct experience with these type of shell that use the compression boot?

Had one on my w250 years ago.
Definitely rubbed the paint off on the back of the cab.

I see however that it was an older truck so I'm not sure if perhaps with time things have changed either on the rear window design or the actual shell design. I'd really appreciate it if someone with a 4th gen 2500 or 3500 could chime in.

I don't think it matters what year, model etc. If it touches the paint it will mar it. If it touches the window it will mar the glass. To narrow it down, if it touches it will cause damage just like car covers etc.

Yes will defiantly will rub the paint off the back of the cab, even spray silicone on the rubber no real help.

Just thinking out loud - you might be able to use some clear plastic film like the 3M film applied as a stone guard on the front of the rear fender bulge on 4th generation duallies. Applied to the back of the cab where the compression boot contacts it, this film might be durable enough to protect the paint. Or it might not.

I had the 3m film it worked great for a number of years no paint rub through

They make toppers where if there is a second window, it folds in so you can get at the rear cab to clean that glass and the glass on the topper.

I had one on a previous truck and it definitely rubbed the paint off. Dust gets between the seal and the paint and the slightest movement of either works just like sandpaper. I would stay far away from those things!
