Since new, my 99 qc, 4x4, LB turbo diesel has been leaking oil (small quantities, half dollar size) from the black tube in front of the engine slightly right of center (drivers side). The tube is between the radiator and comes out of the front of the engine. It makes a 180 degree turn and ends just above the transmission line going to the trans cooler. My dealer states that this is the vent tube or "Blow By" tube and it is normal for it to leak small quantities of oil. It not only leaks on my driveway, but all over the trans cooler line. Is this normal? The leak is not excessive, but will leave about 4 or 5 spots in my driveway within a week. What do you guys think? Thanks

Yes it is "normal". Take a small plastic pill bottle and fasten it to the blow by tube (don't make it air tight). This should take care of the oil drips. Check it every few oil changes.

Or order Cummins #3800918 breather tube kit. After all Tlippy has one, so should you.

I've never spotted (no pun intended) the blow-by tube under my hood-- do the oldie-B's (12-valve) have them, or is it just a 24-valve thing?? also, where are all the "oldtimers"--- craig scholl, tlippy, cmechanic, and others? I, for one, miss y'all... . #ad

I would assume that the 12v have them. I think they were located farther back in a not so noticeable location. According to Cummins the tube was relocated to the front because of complaints from RV owners. It seems the rear engine motorhomes would drip oil on their vehicle being towed and the back of the RV would get oil coated. Moving the vent tube to the front eliminated this problem.

Yes, the 12 valves have the blow by tube. You'll find it directly above the oil spot on your garage floor or driveway. It's near the back of the oil pan on driver's side, about 1/2 inch in diameter.
