I have a 2001 dodge with a open Dana 60 in the from and a new open dana dually. I also have 3. 54 gears in it. I need help trying to decide what type of locker i should put in it. Im thinking of these options. Front an ARB Air Locker and ARB in the rear. ARB in front and a Detroit locker in the back. ARB locker in fornt, Limited slip in rear. I also drive this every day.

i ran a ARB in the front(6yrs-rebuilt 1. 5yrs ago) and a detroit in my 70 rear(3yrs) and had no probs--but then I broke an axle(sledpulling) and upgraded to a 80 in the rear--restacked the plates and all has been good, but I'm looking at upgrading the 80 axles and puttin a true locker back in as I think I'm borrowed time--will be an ARB or Detroit-chris

For that year, you are pretty much stuck with the ARB in the front. For some reason, 2000 to 2002's (with CAD) had 32 spline inner axles and 30 spline outers. The early 94-99's had 30 spline inners and outers. And I believe the generic Dana 60's in the '02's (w/out CAD) had 30/30 splines. part number for the ARB is an RD96.

Tom--very good point--when I did mine they tried to shove a power lock in and it didn't work--ARB was the only one available--and to boot to be able to unlock it and lock it with the flick of a switch is the best thing out there---I also add hydraulic assist steering (AGR) and I have no probs steering in locked mode--truck handles better on the road also----chris

yea track bar falling off isn't a good thing--there's no steering fix for that except stopping and thanking the one above that you did stop without the help of trees, cars, trucks, poles, guard rails and boulders---chris

FUL POWER, for the back, I would recommend a detroit locker, since it is an open diff, you would have to replace the carrier anyway to change it to a limited slip, and end up costing more. The best thing you could probably do is go with a 37 spline Detroit and Haisley axles for a pretty bulletproof setup.

I would recomend an arb for the rear, really you cant lose with having a open or lmited slip on the road and locked when you need it. imo a big truck with some weight in it and a permenent locker in the rear is not so good an idea. It can be done, just driving habits and pulling would have to be relearned, a locked rear will make the truck drive a lot different. So, i believe unlocked on the city streets and locked off road or racing with the arb is the way to go. oh not to mention tire wear and being mistaken for peling out at turns because of the detroit locker. front diff is a different story, because its not being used all the time a full locker if available could be cheaper, and practicle.

just weld the rea end up ive been running my 90 for three years that way and havent had any problems. probably have put about 80 thousand mile on it so far and im not easy on my stuff.

I have been running a detroit in the back of mine and like it, I must the last truck had one in it also. ARBs are great but spendy. But if money isnt an issue go ARB.
