I voted for 2mpg better after flash, this is figured by hand. Just completed a 240 mile round trip to Talkeetna and back. Entire trip at 75-80 mph, mileage ended up at 18. 87 per gallon. Ironically, the overhead was at 18. 9. Previously on this same trip at the same speeds I was in the low 17's.

I'd like to Vote

I'd like to vote but I still can't get my dealer to do the reflash. This is the third time I've asked them to do it and they still won't. They keep telling me that they look up my VIN and there are no TSBs that apply. I tell them, I don't care what the VIN lookup says, the TSB says engines with a serial number between XXXX and XXXX, and mine clearly falls between there. What am I to do? :( :(

All you can do is go to another dealer who is (hopefully) more informed. It is a mystery why some dealers refuse to perform TSB's; it says right on them that they are "reimburseable under the terms of the warranty". The dealer gets paid to perform the work!

Update on initial reflash reaction!

I wanted to update you folks on my initial reaction to the reflash..... see my original post below.

My MPG's have gotten much better (4 more tanks) and now hover in the 15-17 range. Not sure why it wasn't aparen't right away... . ut happy to see the change. The clatter and overall engine noise is still more than before but the 48RE seems to be much smoother in shifting.

I have the same results as thames1948 and SSchang!!! Do you both have the 48RE as well? I wonder if the 6 sp reflash is working well and the auto reflash's aren't. Here is my story..... at 15,000 miles.

Prior to the reflash:

I was getting 13-14 mpg non towing and 8 towing. My overhead tracked 0. 5 mpg to hand calc.

After the reflash (3 tanks later):

Now getting 12 mpg non towing and overhead says 15. Towing stayed at 8mpg but overhead says 9mpg.

ALSO NOTE:

My pinging is much worse than before, and the overall engine noise is much louder, complete with a 2000 rpm drone I didn't have before!!!! My wife actually asked me what happened to the truck and why was it so loud. I watched the tech do my reflash and he pulled the latest version of changes on to the DRB from dealerconnect. I was with him during the relash process... . all seemed to go well.

I don't think it is winterized fuel... and if it was the chances of getting 3 tanks of it right after my reflash (filled up at 3 diffferent stations - all ones I normally use) is pretty slim.

Gotta call the dealer tomorrow -------

I just did another fill up, right to the top of the neck. This was mostly in town highway, 35-50 mph stop and go. The overhead said 16. 1 and the hand done math said 14. 5. . I think the TSB made the over head get better and did nothing for the actual mileage. Just my opinion

jeff95, at 11-12 mpg you will recoup your investment when hell freezes over.

go gasoline and enjoy the economy and quiet and 5 quarts of oil. Hey Cummins. . what gives??????????

Find a new dealer

I am ssssooooo Hissed Off!!!!!

:-{} :-{} Saw the results showing most went up in fuel mileage, so had to try it myself. WHAT A MISTAKE!!!!! I pull a trailer every day, so do not get a chance very often to check actual mileage on the road empty. Have a 600 Shifter. When it was 1 month old, set cruise on 73 on a trip to Ft Smith and back to Tulsa. Hand calculated at 16. 3. Two months ago, cruise set on 70 and 75 (about 50/50) on the way back from Dallas. Hand calculated 16. 4. Now have 7700 miles on it. Had reflash done Monday Oct. 11th. As soon as I drove off, could tell the drastic loss in power. Will not pick up speed even if floor it pulling my 5x8 enclosed work trailer up the smallest hill. Before, it would sit you back in the seat. I figured hey, could stand a loss of power if boost fuel mileage. Made a road trip this past weekend to Kansas City just to check mileage, and to gamble a bit. Cruise set on 75 for 208 miles, and set at 70 for the remaining 372. Hand calculated 15. 29. Talk about ******. I was on the phone today with the dealer and DC. Dealer says nothing can be done. Like hell!!!!!!! Have filed a complaint thru DC also. These results are just not exceptable!!!!! They offer the reflash to improve mileage, then it should. Was told can not program back to original after the reflash. If have too, they can take a computer off another one and replace on mine if they have to. If any ideas, please let me hear from you. Also, RLighthall, if you have a copy of the letter from DC, please post it, or send a copy to me for my records. Thanks. Good luck to everyone else. THINK TWICE!!!!!! :-{} :-{} By the way, overhead was almost correct before reflash. Now it read 17. 3 while actually getting 15. 2. Seems like they got it all mixed up. Where is THEIR Heads??????

I got the flash on 10/15. My milage was 12-13 MPG before the flash and has gone up to 14-15 since for my normal commute which is 10 miles each way mostly on the freeway. I probably average about 30% of my driving on city streets. I consider the flash a success and am hoping that further break in continues to improve the mileage. I am currently at 3800 miles and did my first oil change today.

Went empty to Boise (about 240 miles), my longest trip without the trailer hooked up. Kept cruise at 75mph except for a short construction zone en route and got 11. ? mpg. Got it flashed while I was there, filled to the brim, and ran it home driving same speeds - overhead 15. 9mpg. I haven't hand calculated mpg yet since I've still got nearly 3/4 of a tank of fuel (cripes, never thought I'd say that). My overhead has always been spot on but I see some posters think the reflash messes with it so I'll do the hand calc. when I fill up.

I'm thinking this is gonna be a two thumbs up deal from DC/Cummins... the 'ol 98. 5 may be on the sell block and might have to modify my sig.
