Tsb 18-004-04

I took my truck in this morning to get the "fast idle TSB" done.

I had called two days ago to schedule it, and make sure they had the software. After about two hours of reading magazines in the waiting room, I was told it was ready. I picked up the keys from the cashier, went out and started my truck. Just for kicks, I decided to try out this new feature, and I couldn't get it to work. I went back in, and told the service rep that I couldn't get it to work. His reply "yea I know, we put this on one other truck and it didn't work either".



He went on to say they would make a phone call and try to find out why it was not working.



That sucks... I guess they were just hoping I wouldn't notice.



Has anybody else had a problem with this TSB?

I had mine done back in February. At first, it didn't work, either. I stopped back in the next morning on my way to work and pointed out to the service writer that part 2 of the TSB was to enable the feature.



About 20 minutes later, my truck was ready. They were all excited as it was the first one they'd done.

Mine did not work the first time either. They had to re-flash the ECM again and now it works.

I posted a reply to this but it looks to be lost in cyber lala land. I had taken my truck into the dealers in June to have this done and after the wanna be mechanic trying for a half hour or so I was told that he was unable to apply this TSB. I have heard that after having TSB 18-037-04(the holy grail fuel mileage tsb) applied that the high idle tsb will work. I'll know more on monday after I get my truck reflashed in the morning as I'm going to have them try to reflash for the high idle at the same time. My truck is going to have so much done that it'll think that it's a Yugo afterwards. :-laf

Mine has not had the Mileage TSB done yet. The high idle TSB is 18-004-04. It is for complaints of poor cab heat or slow engine warm up.

I took my truck back in this morning, and told them they most likely did not enable the feature after they did the flash. They said that was not possible, but they agreed to have the service manager check it just to get rid of me.

In a few minutes, they came back, looking a little embarrassed. They said I was right, and apologized for me having to make two trips.

It works fine now, and I'm a happy camper.

I noticed this TSB applies to all 24valves and automatics. Has anyone asked their dealer if it can be done to the second gens? OR the third gens with a stick?

I'm glad it worked out for you.



You will also discover that when you need to let the truck idle in hot weather, the A/C will work much better if you kick the idle up. 1100 RPMs usually works well for me.
