Has anybody had this done to a 24 valve engine in the Grand Rapids, MI area? I was told by Cummins that they cannot do it, that you have to take it to a dealer. So I called my dealer and they new nothing about it. Once enabled, idle speed will slowly ramp up from 800 to 1200 rpm when all the following conditions are met;

1. Intake manifold temp. less than 32 deg F

2. Coolant temp. is less than 140 deg F

3. The Trans. is in Neutral or Park

4. The service brake pedal is not depressed

5. Throttle = 0%

6. Vehicle Speed = 0 mph

I think the software is already installed on your 01 they just need to turn it on. I think the procedure is: go to engine menu,look in misc, look for 3cyl idle,turn it on. They should do it for free since you are educating their sorry asses. Dont feel to bad though I had to hold my tech's through it too. His response was "I have been working on these since they came out and I never heard of it"

Bodybomber, thank for the info. I took it to them and they said that they did it for me, but this morning it was 10 deg. here and went out to start it and it did not ramp up at all. So I don't know what they did, but they did not do it correctly apparently. Or am I not doing something right? I mean it should do it all by itself, correct?

was it plugged in? I think with it plugged in it keeps it to warm to activate the high idle. Also it could be your tech didn't enable it properly. Doing a search on this will show you its very common for the techs to not properly activate the function.

I took mine to a local dealer 3 times and they couldn't get mine to work so I gave up and went back to a ruler between pedal and dash. These people that work at these dealers have no idea what they are doing. They need better training so they can address these issues.

I HAVE DONE THIS TO MY OWN TRUCK AND MANY OTHERS AND DOES WORK IF CONDITIONS ARE RIGHT. I WORK AT WAYLAND CHRYSLER ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO CALL ME. 269-792-2268 ASK FOR KELVIN. IF BLOCK HEATER IS PLUGGED IN IT WILL NOT WORK.

For the cold idle to work, it HAS to be turned on by the dealer, the "NORMAL" setting is off. I had my 01 reflashed by Gage Chrysler in Grand Haven to get the update installed and the cold idle works great. BUT when you have you ECM flashed you get ALL updates reguardless if you want them or not. After the reflash my power went up some but fuel milage DROPPED about 2 mpg. I have to admit that the dealer warned me that the decrease in MPG was possible and a reflash can not be undone. REMEMBER that when you get your ecm reflashed, YOU must tell the dealer you want the cold idle turned on.

What part of Michigan is wayland Dodge located? I would be willing to drive that far to get it turned on by someone that understands what they are doing or what about recommending someone in my area. I took it back 3 times it would spend the night and then they finally told me on the last trip I had all the latest and greatest software available. I had a 99 gas dodge that was at 2 local dealers that rebuilt, replaced the transmission several times. Then was valve bodies, Torque converters and computer. Several times and never was able to fix the transmission problems. That is why I have no confidence in local dealers. That truck spent 72 days in repairs in 1 year. I made them buy it back with a fight.

I found that you have to hold the techs hand and make him read the whole procedure. Even after I told the dealer that I have the software installed and it just needs to be enabled, I waited around an hour and then had them come to me and say you have the newest version of software! Duh, I said that and said it just need to be enabled, the tech put up a fight and complained the whole time I was reading the procedure to him, but finally when we got to the end and read about enabling it he said, oh I get it now. I can do that in 5 minutes.

Kyle-Does this mean you also get the oil pressure gauge "fix" that de-sensitizes it to oil pressure? :(
