I went to my local dealer 10/21/04 to have the 18-037-04 re-flash. I noticed some of the same improvements reported by others including better acceleration with improved shifts and about a 2 mpg increase in fuel economy (hand calculated) although my overhead was now about 1 mpg off. Still had a little white smoke on start up but no big deal.

Then I looked at the "Authorized Modification Label" which had been placed near the support above the radiator and it showed that TSB 18-007-04 had been done.

I went back to the dealer today to discuss this and talked to the service manager and the mechanic who performed the re-flash. Basically they said that the TSB number is just a reference for the notice that is sent to them and the actual information downloaded on TechConnect does not even have the TSB number listed. Instead, the ECM number is entered in the TechConnect system and the latest download for that ECM is received and loaded into the DRBIII. The tech said that he used the 18-007-04 reference because that is the one he saw in his book when he looked up the "white smoke" problem. He said that the latest download for a particular ECM covers all the latest updates since the ECM is erased and re-programmed and there is no going back.

I have always had confidence in this dealer and all this sounded reasonable to me. The service manager is a personal friend of mine (although he is more of an administrator than a mechanic). I don't think they would try to pull one over on me.

I also noticed that on the 18-007-04 bulletin it refers to TechCONNECT, and 18-037-04 refers to DealerCONNECT ..... I assume these are the same

I am satisfied with the way the truck is performing at this time with only 3500 miles. I just wanted to make sure I had the latest and best updates. Any comments welcome.

TSB 18-037-04 is the newest Flash for the white smoke problem and it also addresses mileage. I had the 007 done when it came out. I did the 037 last week and noticed an immediate improvement in mileage as well and getting rid of the loud pinging at idle.

The info your dealer gave you is correct. Once the flash is done, the old program is over-written and can't be retrieved. Most folks that have had TSB 18-037-04 performed are happy with the results. My Tech told me that 037 was the latest to address white smoke on cold starts and the first to improve mileage.

That's encouraging news I have my truck scheduled to go in for this and the launch shudder next tuesday. The service manager said he had never heard of the shudder launch problem, which is not encouraging. will see next week.
