I went to the dealership today, decided I'd take the plunge and have my truck flashed. Well, this was my experience;



1450 arrived at dealership (only 1 in my area with a diesel mechanic), everything is well, all persons there are courteous and friendly, the service pretty quick, the waiting area nice and comfortable. Anyway, I witnessed my truck being driven away by the service tech and I began my wait. After about 30 minutes I see my truck return, so I go out and ask the guy who's driving it "how did everything go?" he stated it must have went pretty well it did not need any tsb's ??? ??? I go back to the waiting area to await the paper pusher, he comes looking for me and states that I have the latest software version and their are no tsb's available for my truck ??? ??? I explain to him when my truck was manufactured and when the TSB came out and that there is no way it was done at the factory, I also explained to him that my truck hasn't been touch by any one with a computer other than the speedometer adjustment.

1605 left the dealership without satisfaction.



Now for my question, have any of you ever heard such?

I know that my truck has never been flashed but they are saying that when my truck was connected to their computers, their equipment was saying that I had the latest software versions and that there were no tsb's available.

Sounds strange. Are you sure there wasn't another service area that he took it to? When I had my re-flash done at Elk Grove Dodge I watched the whole thing and the test drive was only done to ensure that my vibration was gone due to other service, and that was only about 5 minutes. If your truck fits into the engine serial number range, and the build date range, it should be eligible for re-flash. Did they give you a receipt showing the tsb, attempted service and an explanation that it was not needed? If not make the drive to another dealer. I'm sure other members can recommend a dealer near Atlanta Georgia that they have had better luck. You do not need a diesel mechanic to re-flash, it is the same process as a gasser.

I would have printed out a copy of the TSB with the build/dates and engine serial number range and drug the service manager/writer to my truck and make him read it off the block.



Sometimes these dealerships are so out of touch with our trucks it is pathetic. I was getting a LOF done the other day and asked one of the service writers about enabling the high idle feature and he said he had never heard of it and said it would probably be a good idea if I lived in Alaska. Jeeez - It should be mandatory that "5 Star" dealers should be TDR members. Robert - Are you listening?

WOW! Might just want to have another dealer see if they can do it.

At least your dealer knew what a TSB was..

Took my truck to Moss Brothers Dodge in San Bernadino for the free oil change that came with my initial purchase. I asked the service manager to do the "flash upgrade to the ECU. " Claimed he didn't know what I was talking about. My bad... I didn't use the word "TSB" or have the actual filename..... that was their one and only chance to do right by me - they blew it and I won't be going back.

They won't just do the TSB because you ask them to. You have to complain of "smoke on startup" and "overhead computer not agreeing with calculated mileage". Then the TSB applies to your truck. Otherwise, as far as they are concerned, you have the latest software because you are not having problems.

Every time my truck has been re-flashed for upgrades the dealer put a sticker under the hood with the TSB number and version of the update.



The dealer was in Ventura CA.



Alan is right the only way I could get a reflash done was to look up the TSB and tell the dealer I was having the problems that the TSB listed.

Unless you pay the 80. 00 and say you want it done anyways and not under warranty.

I complained about mileage the last time I brought my truck in and they reflashed it for a charge of $53. 86 or really close to that. My truck was still under the last few miles of an extended warranty but apparetly it was not covered. The good news is that my truck runs way better and has picked up mileage too. For supposedly being the same flash as 18-007-04, which I had done back in 2004, it sure makes me feel a little unsettled that I went just less than 4 years with a poorly performing reflash.

I went in and asked for the flash to enable the high idle and just like tschwab, the service manager didn't know what I was talking about and once I explained it to him, he mentioned it being only useful in Alaska. I actually gave him the tsb number thanks to the TDR and he looked it up. Tried to talk me out of it, actually, but finally agreed to do it and charged me $40. Turns out something didn't go right and the high idle never worked. I brought it back a while later and had them redo it. Worked fine after that, but I lost any confidence in the service writer's ability to do his job. I told him I learned about it on the TDR and he tried to pass it off as the typical internet rumors.
