My brother has an '06 Dually that sometimes takes a long time to start and I was wondering if:

1 Anyone else having the same problem?

2 Is there a TSB concerning this issue yet

3 If there is a TSB what is the #?

4 His mileage is not as great as his 04. 5 either and if there is a TSB for this yet? thanks everyone.

There is a TSB on this... a quick search will come up with a few threads on the Hard Start. I have the thread bookmarked at home... and I am at work now... . let me see If I can find it... it's like 'difficult start' or something like that... .

Here it is... copied from a post in the "engine" forum.

Tsb 18-003-06

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I changed my Saturday appointment to today. My dealer was ready to upgrade my truck but did not have to becuse it was built 11-28-05. The door sticker only provides mo/yr of mfr. Your dealer can run a VIN report with your exact build date becuse the TSB is that specific. I have a copy of the TSB it says:

NOTE: This bulletin applies to Ram Trucks equipped with the 5. 9L Cummins 24-valve diesel engine (sales code ETH) built on or after June 9, 2005 through and including November 8, 2005 (MDH 0609XX and 1108XX).

SYMPTOMS/CONDITIONS:

The vehicle operator may experience extended engine crank time in cold ambient temperatures on vehicle equipped with manual transmissions.

This Flash also provides the following enhancements:

-Improved Automatic Transmission shifting

-Engine fan is activated if the coolant temperature sensor fails

-Enhanced battery charging

The rest of the bulletin is techincian info.

I had mine done. Part of the reflash also takes care of the CEL coming on with a code about battery temp def or something like that.

PS: At times, mine still cranks around 30 seconds to start even after the TSB, but not as often as it used to.

I will take note of that other number and take it to the dealer. When I was there last week the guys said that they knew of the hard start but knew of no fixes yet... TDR to the rescue!!!

They did have a "u-joint" inspection that needed to be done and something to do with the "fuel vent" and keeping it from getting contaminated... but the "did not have the parts in stock" for that fix... whatever it is... they did not tell me. Humm.

No reason to crank on it that long. If it does not fire in five seconds, stop cranking and start cranking again. The cam and crank sensors will take another look and usually will sync up right away and it will fire up. The flash was to dumb down the sync offset so if they were not in perfect sync it would give the OK to start anyway.
