yeah... ... ... ... ... :-laf

fuel economy was hand calc 18. 2 at 65mph :( now hand calc 20. 1 :)

smoke and rough idle at start up ..... gone

pinging noise..... gone

idle hunt ... ... still the same

overall I feel my engine has better low end power and it runs better. 1800 mi since reflash

Had it done last week. Havn't refilled yet, but driving today I hit 450 mi on 1/2 tank. I usually get less then 400 miles on the first half. Won't know exactly until I refill, but it looks like at least 2 mpg better. When I baught this truck I never dreamed about getting in the 20 mog range. My idle hiccup and the slight ping are also gone. I have not noticed a loss of power, but the truck has been empty since the reflash.

I wonder if the re-flash reduces the extra emmisions injection.

Are you sure? I got 491 out of my last tank. Filled up today and put in 29. xx gallons. 450 on 1/2 tank would be unreal!

Of course, God Bless you if you do... .

Just wondering.

At least on my truck I get a lot more miles out of the first half. Part of it could be that I can get about 5 gallons more after the handle clicks off. If you don't top off you will get 60 to 100 miles less per tank depending on fuel economy. Before the flash I would typically get 550-600 per tank. According to the overhead adding distance and distance to empty I should get 700 miles on this tank. Of course I am just speculating until I fill up.

what TSB # did you do. I talked to the dealer and there is two of them. He said that if the latest one is done that any earlier ones would be incorporated, Is this true? Thanks

The TSB is #18-037-04

Do a search for this tsb. There was a member who put a link to it. Copy it and take it to the dealer. I believe you are correct about this re-flash incorporating older programs. Good luck.

Acording to the TSB the engine serial numbers of engines to be reflashed are 57130285 through 57246361 and engines built from 12/10/2003 through 8/17/2004

Thanks klenger. This was a great help when I took my truck in. The service advisor did wonder where I got the info though.

Thanks again,

Greg

A friend of mine just bought a 600 (4x4,6speed,3. 73) two weeks ago. He just got back from Colorado elk hunting very ****** off. He pulled a 14' enclosed trailer out and back and averaged 7mpg. Empty it was not much better.

I sent him back to his dealer (who havent been very helpful) with a printout of the TSB. The dealer told him to leave headlights, radio, heater and any other electrical accessories off. Oh, and dont pull anything with it either. Also, it needs to break-in.

I'm sorry, but these trucks dont gain 10mpg after break-in. The dealer did finally do the re-flash, so we'll see how much better it gets.

That dealer is lucky I dont own that truck. They'd find the sob rammed through the show room wall with a note telling them to check the brakes too, they feel a little spongy. :p

Steve, My trucks fuel guage drops real slow for the first 1/2 tank, then drops like a lead baloon for the last 1/2 tank. So for the first few tank fulls that I ran through it I thought that I was going to make better than teriffic mileage. So maybe GFritch's does the same thing, and he doesn't get many more miles out of the last 1/2 tank. Like you say though, "lucky him" if he does! :)

I have a 600 that I bought in April. Fits under the TSB range and I am leaving it the heck ALONE!! My Mileage keeps getting better and better with every tank! THe mileage really gets better after a long haul weekend. I now get (All hand Calculated) 20 Around town and back and forth to work, 16-17 Pulling an 8500 lb loaded gooseneck 65-70 MPH, and 22 Unloaded Hwy... I'm not taking the chance on losing power etc. These numbers work for me. . I've gained about 5MPG on all areas since brand new. Oo.

I don't think I would mess with that mileage either Roper. I did on mine and I have gained 2 mpg. I think with as many people who have had the TSB done without complaint, it's a pretty safe thing to do. I was hoping it would make my fluctuating idle go away but it didn't...

One thing I was looking for was where they put the sticker indicating the TSB was done?

RE: TSB Sticker

According to the TSB they should place the sticker on the ECM which is located on the drivers side of the motor at the front down near the oil pan.

I had the reflash done about 2000 miles ago and I am getting around 400-450 per tank. I also can't find any sticker under the hood that says that the dealer actually performed the flash. I'm still not getting the miles per tank like some others on this boards, but I am attributing that to having the 48re and 4. 10's. I have been to another dealer and they hooked up the scanner to the computer and got an AH code, which according to them is one of the latest programs, which the service tech says that it is evidence that some computer work was done, maybe not necessarily the reflash.

When I had mine done, the sticker just when from ending with a "G" to an "H". My dealer just put the sticker in front, right by the radiator (he didn't feel like crawling under the truck). Mine's been doing great. If I baby it a little, I can get about 20 mpg in the city :D (of course, who wants to baby it :-laf )

Is this reflash just for the 04. 5 600's is there something to help poor fuel milage for the 04's.

Thanks tj

Just for the serial numbers I listed in the earlier post on this thread. Those dates and engine numbers were taken directly off the TSB. You could always go to the dealer and ask if there is any new programs for your truck.

roperteacher-nobody gets better mileage than you as you have been braggin' about forever. what happened to the 25+ you use to get towing? oh yea, bert& holly do almost as good so it must be true.
