After reading Joe Donnelly's article on dropped valve seats caused by excessive EGT I was wondering if a exhaust brake would cause a concern about this overheating of exhaust.

It seems to be a common misconception that EB's cause high exhaust temps but they don't. Remember, the EB is only on at zero throttle and at zero throttle and coasting down a hill, the eng isn't making any exhaust heat. Going down a hill with the brake on gives me a temp only a few degree's higher than just idling without it. Also, at WOT and heavy load my EB install made no difference to max temps I see ~ it's like blowing air past the sharp edge of a knife. No discernable restriction at all.
