I know the smoke thing has been done to death, but I’ve gotta ask... I know the TST #12 is a pretty mild cam plate (235 hp / 605 #), but since mine went in, no matter what I do (back off the star wheel, slide back the AFC housing, etc), I can't seem to get the smoke under control without killing my power. Sure, I expect some coal dust to come out of the pipe when I get on it, but I'm talking even the lightest of acceleration. Is that the price I pay, or does anyone have a suggestion?

How many miles since the plate?

You may simply be cleaning out the cat turds. Mine would do that stock but after "cleaning the cat" it only started it again after uprating the fueling.

Another option is the AFC spring to control the lower boost fueling but still give the major seat of the pants experience.

Do you have guages?

Getting ready to install the gauges either this or next weekend for just that reason! Also installing an AFC spring kit to be on the safe side (I'm in Colorado, where the tree huggers'll chase me down if I don't get her cleaned up!)

Since we are on the subject of AFC springs for a moment, I want to clarify what the spring kit does. If I am correct, the spring kit just gives more of a wide range of pre-boost fuel control for those who are running major amounts of fuel?? Well, I think I am in the same boat as LJHagen cuz ever since I installed my #10 plate and gave my AFC spring about 30 clicks towards the engine, I get smoke on every acceleration. Even if I barely just pedal it and let the clutch out nice and easy it still wants to blow a decent amount of smoke and cloud up the cars behind me. Not that I don't mind it, but I am wondering if I installed a spring kit in the AFC, if I could get better control of that smoke on acceleration? It's weird though, cuz if the AFC only controls fuel before boost is achieved, then how come when it does blow that smoke from a dead stop when I give it some pedal, make 10# of boost and it still wants to smoke a good deal? Should I try just backing the AFC off and see how that responds? Also, how will backing that spring off affect my current power? I would think it would not give me that pre-boost fuel that gets me up and going so fast right now, right?

Sorry, if I am rambling, just trying to fit these questions into one thread.

Thanks, Joe

My 12 doesn't smoke much unless I get on it, and even then it's just a slight haze, more noticable at night, looking through on coming headlights. My 12 is in stock position, afc housing full forward and starwheel totally loose.

What do you mean your star wheel is "loose"? Is that your term for a "gutted" AFC with no spring?
